To The Seniors On My High School Dance Team

I know you've heard "soak it in" and "you only have so much time left" over a thousand times from the everyone, but I'm here to say it as someone who lived it with you and really misses every second of this team.

Seniors,

All though my senior and last season on the team ended in 2017, I have still felt a part of this team throughout the past two years. As the new competition season is in its beginning stages, I have been thinking a lot about the team, especially the seniors. Your senior season is a really special thing, something I will cherish and always remember. I know you've heard "soak it in" and "you only have so much time left" over a thousand times from the coaches, but I'm here to say it as someone who lived it with you and really misses every second of this team.

Please soak it all in. Conference meets are just starting up and your thinking about all the ways you can change and make the dance better. This is such an exciting time in the season, so take in every second. You'll long for the dress up days at school before meets and getting ready in the locker room before we go to competitions because although they seem small, you'll look back and remember how fun it was to be in those moments with the team. Hold on to all the moments that make you smile, laugh, and cry because I know I do and have all these good memories stored from all of my seasons, but especially my last one.

Get as close with the team as you possibly can. It's the best feeling in the world to make it to the end of the season and know that you did this with your best friends, that you made it all the way and had each other every step of the way. I know how much it meant to me to have the whole team by my side every step of the way. Also, create this bond because it will go way beyond the last day of the season. I still have the best friendships with girls, older and younger, I was on the team with. The friends you make on this team will continue on and it's the best thing to be able to stay close with the teammates that made my dance team experience so great.

Don't wish it away. Trust me, I lived through it too. It's hard. You hit that point in the season where you don't want to go to practice, you want to do other things, and you want to focus on college that's within an arm's reach distance. But don't wish a second of it away. Yeah, it's hard but it's the hard practices that make you stronger and help you grow closer as a team. These are the moments where you can all come together and get through it together. If you can get through December dance team, you can get through anything. Remember that you don't have to do it alone and, also, don't just do it for yourself. You have a whole group of seniors, and the rest of the team, that is with you every step of the way.

Watching you all in the first moments of the winter season has been so fun. You bet I have a TeamSnap password, so I can keep up and watch all of your dances. I'd do just about anything to be able to have one more meet, pasta dinner, four-hour Saturday practice, and time on the State floor. And soon, once you have to watch everything from the stands, or from afar at college, you'll feel the same way too. So, my advice is to take it all in while you can and live in every moment because it's going to be something great and memorable.

From,

A super, super senior

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
