I have been a fan of Lady Gaga for many years now. A lot of people who are not fans of Gaga say she is too weird and strange for their liking, which is understandable on the level that she has some unique choices in clothing and display in her performances, but a lot of people fail to see how truly inspirational and motivating she is when it comes to people's self worth, respect, and acceptance. There are hundreds of quotes from Lady Gaga I could share to show how inspiring she can really be, but I have limited it down to seven short quotes that I think everyone should take to heart.
1. "Celebrate all the things you don't like about yourself - love yourself."
Notice how Gaga says that we should love all the things we DON'T like about ourselves. This includes your weird laugh, the flabby skin under your arms, and every other thing you find unattractive or "wrong" about yourself. Those things are part of what make you who you are, and you should embrace those things and see them as a part of you instead of a flaw.
2. "I have the ability and the free will to choose the way the world will envision me."
This statement has so much truth to it. YOU get to decide who you want to be. Style your hair how you want, wear your makeup how you want, and dress how you want. No one can take your originality away from you.
3. "You define beauty for yourself. Society doesn't define your beauty."
It is not up to the rest of the world to define who you are. You get to make your own decisions and make yourself according to how you think your personality would best be displayed.
4. "Ignore all hatred and criticism. Live for what you create, and die protecting it."
In other words, don't spend a single second pondering on what someone says about you. Other people's opinions do not matter. Not one bit. Choose who you are, be who you are, and protect yourself from those that think they can take that away from you.
5. "Whether I'm wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I'm always the same person inside."
This is one of my absolute favorite quotes from Lady Gaga. A person can dress his or herself up in ten layers of makeup, a light veil of makeup, or none at all and wear sweats or some fancy ballgown and still be the same person they were before they put any of that on. There are so many stereotypes in today's society about certain clothes and the style of makeup that people wear, but let me assure you that those stereotypes are a load of crap. You can look as made up or down as you want to.
6. "Don't ever let a soul in the world tell you that you can't be exactly who you are."
Yes. Exactly. You cannot be coerced into changing yourself for anything or anyone. Be yourself. Love yourself. Don't let anyone tell you you're not good enough. You are good enough. You are you.
7. "At the end of the day, you won't be happy until you love yourself."
Out of all seven of the Gaga quotes listed, this is the most important. You can change how you look, the way you talk, or even the people you hang out with, but until you are able to look in a mirror and say "You are beautiful" or "I love you," you will not be happy. You just won't.
