Hello, This My First Odyssey Article
Stephanie Torres

My name is Stephanie Torres. To start off on what will hopefully be numerous articles. I'd like to formally introduce myself.

I am 18 years old and I am currently a student at Dalton State. I am going for my psychology degree. I recently graduated from Northwest Whitfield high school.

I am pursuing a degree in psychology because I hope to one day become a counselor and minister to teens who suffer from mental health issues. I was inspired to do this because I myself struggle with PTSD, anxiety and depression. My condition has gotten better but I still struggle with daily fear. My therapist has truly helped me come up with ways to not let my thoughts hinder me from enjoying my life. I wish to minister to teens about how God can help heal those wounds. I want to give teens hope and I want to make them successful and love life and God.

While I was in high school I participated in marching band, service clubs, and chorus. I played in the drum line and I played the bass clarinet for Coahulla Creek and I was in the color guard at Northwest. Since I was in elementary school I've loved playing music and singing. I played the violin and I was in melody makers (elementary school choir). While in high school I met the love of my life. We have been together for almost three years and he is my absolute best friend. I'm in love with him and his family (Heather, his mom, and Allen, his dad are the best people who ever existed!) I also have some amazing friends, I'd personally like to mention two of my friends. One who has motivated me to strengthen my walk with Christ. She one of my most loving and most sincere best friend. (Maggie, you're beautiful inside and out and I'm so glad to have you as a friend!) and Leslie! Thank you for answering every little question I have about college, and thank you for motivating me to do this!

I love video games and The Lord of the Rings. I hope to one day visit New Zealand a.k.a The Shire. I've played video games since I was a little girl and I've also loved LOTR since I was a little girl. (Did I mention my boyfriend is a gamer too?) I also love to watch documentaries and do my makeup.
I had to dedicate a whole paragraph to my love of makeup. I love to shop for makeup, from Sephora to Walgreens! My favorite YouTuber by FAR is Jaclyn Hill. I aspire to be like her. I don't want to own a whole makeup line (although that would be awesome), but I hope to have her positivity and optimism. I know it's silly to care so much for someone who I don't know, but I can't help but cheer for joy when she releases a new product!

In conclusion, I hope to become a better writer and learn from others. I hope to make someone's day. I will be writing about different topics, from mental health, religion, social issues and I may write some more about myself. If anyone would like to contact me please, feel free. I have my email on my page.

Have a blessed day!
- Steph

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
