Before I came to college I was often asked if I planned on joining a sorority, and my answer was always no. I had seen the movies that made it look scary and horrible and no one in my family had ever gone Greek before. Eventually that changed when my roommate convinced me to rush with her, and I decided to give it a chance. It started as an opportunity to become more open minded in college and now, I cannot picture my life without it.
I think about that decision a lot and it never fails to put a smile on my face.
On the second day of rush I was pretty certain I knew where I was meant to be. When I went into this house I felt comfortable and I could see that everyone there was genuine. Nothing like what you see in those movies. There was something different about this sisterhood and I could tell right away that they loved and cared for each other. It was so much more than I had ever expected. They really were the most wonderful group of women.
Three days later I ran home to those women, and just a couple of months after that I became one of them. The ladies I call my sisters wear Red, Buff, and Green and make me proud every single day. I know that no matter the time, place or situation I have them to support and care for me and that is exactly why I chose to join a sorority. I would do anything for my sisters, and that feeling cannot be replaced.
So shout out to my beautiful sisters each one of them truly unique, wonderful, and dear to my heart. Thank you for taking a chance on this crazy girl from Illinois, and teaching me so much about myself in the process. There are no other people I'd rather share a home and letters with and I always want you all to know that. Here’s to continuing to cherish and perfect the friendships I have with the people I love.
If you aren't sure about rushing, I urge you to think about my story because you really could find your home in greek life. You could find your forever friends, just as I have.
