10 Things We Are All Really Thinking During Rush

What really goes through our minds as we recruit.

Sorority formal recruitment is a two-weekend process that directs you to the sorority that you will fit best. There are long days, early mornings, and dress codes, but it all seems to work out in the end. Here are 10 things we are all really thinking during formal rush.

1. Man, this is exhausting.

These days are some of the longest and hardest days in Greek life with the constant talking, early mornings, and late nights. And no one can help but think how exhausting it is, and some even say it out loud! It is always good to know you are not the only one.

2. When is our lunch break?

Due to such early mornings, the main question is when do you get to eat. No one wants to talk to a hangry (angry and hungry) potential new member or a hangry current member!

3. Where should I go for lunch?

Not only do we all think about when we get to eat, but we also have to decide where! It is tough to decide where to go near campus that won’t have a ridiculous line because, let’s face it, we are all starving and probably a little mean when we’re hungry.

4. I hope she doesn't think I'm weird.

We are trying to make good impressions on either the current sorority members or the potential new members, so you can’t help but wonder if she thinks you’re totally weird. Everything you do or say is constantly questioned in your head, over-analyzing every word or gesture. It’s OK though because, 99 percent of the time, we are in fact weird and appreciate your weirdness.

5. OMG! She is, like, really pretty.

We are all so guilty of thinking how gorgeous a girl is throughout the entire conversation. You leave thinking, "Wow! She is, like, really pretty!"

6. Pizza.

Admit it—you love pizza so much, it’s all you can think about. I can easily say I am guilty of thinking about pizza during recruitment. It’s so warm and cheesy and delicious!

7. Is it time to leave yet?

We all love talking to possible sorority sisters through recruitment, but admit it—it is so exhausting and tiring, we all just want to leave. After a few hours, everyone has lost their voice and probably their sanity.

8. My bed!

This is pretty self-explanatory. Nothing sounds better than your bed. Dressing up and “girl-flirting” is fun for a little, but all day your bed is calling, and it’s all anyone can think about.

9. Is this even worth it?

I’m sure many girls think of this during the recruitment process. Sure, it’s long and seems absurd at times, but the answer is: Yes, it is worth it. Finding a group of girls that share the same values as you is worth the stress of recruitment. Sisterhood is forever, they say.

10. I still have homework to do.

Yes, sadly recruitment takes away entire days that could be dedicated to homework. So come Sunday night, we all realize "Shoot, there's still homework to rush through!" Even though it was syllabus week last week, most professors still give lots of work, and you can't help but think about it during recruitment. We all just pray we can bust it out when we have a break between rounds or super late at night before it's due.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
