The list

You know what I'm talking about. That list every mother makes for her child to accomplish while home. Clean this, organize that, paint something, fix something else. The list goes on (and on and on). So far, I've done about half of my list, but I swear the thing grows.

The food

Coming from the poverty of college food and finals week (yay, Ramen Noodles!), mom's fully stocked pantry and fridge look like heaven on earth. And guess what!? It actually is! Fresh fruits and veggies are like gold in the college world, but moms love to buy them! And your favorite foods are all there, too. Thanks, Mom!!!

The lifestyle adjustment

Coming home for an extended period of time after living on your own is hard, it might even be the best kept secret in college life. You've changed since school started and sometimes it's hard to readjust to living your old life. However, going back home gives you a chance to recover from the stresses of school and spend time with loved ones. You'll be glad you are home, even if it's a rough first few days as you get used to not making your own rules again.

The job search

While you're home, you got to earn some cash. But nothing is more soul crushing than finding that perfect minimum wage job at [insert terrible place to work here]. Is it September yet?

Meeting up with old friends

Before you moved home, you've probably thought about meeting up with old friends and catching up, but the reality is never what you think. The reality is that, as you grow older and develop your own lives, your friends are doing the exact same thing and as you all meet up, you'll find yourself cheering on everyone's new adventures. Best friends are for life, after all.

The social life or lack thereof

You're not in the University of Kansas anymore, Dorothy. Back at home, you're only going to get a fraction of the social life you're used to. But it's not that bad, it gives you more time to spend at home, or at work, or . . . nope, I can't. It really is that bad. The social change is hard. Fortunately, there's plenty of stuff to do in the summer to keep you busy, you just have to be creative.

Sleeping in

You know that wonderful feeling of not having to set an alarm? That's probably the best part about summer. You get to actually sleep in! No 7 o'clock bio labs (which I'm pretty sure are the most sadistic thing in all of college), no papers due to keep you up late, and you even get a comfy bed when you're home!

Netflix burnout

At first, I didn't believe that this was actually a real thing. But sometime around hour five of binge watching, you too will begin to realize it is true. When you're in school, sitting around and watching television is an unrealistic dream. However, this dream quickly turns into a Netflix nightmare.

The questions

"What are you doing with your life?" "What are you going to with that major?" "Are you dating anyone?" "Are you going to marry him/her?" "Why not?" The questions never seem to end and they come from everyone. Your parents, your relatives, your parents' neighbors, your own friends who are also sick of the questions, even random people you barely know. In your heart, you know it's because they care, but sometimes you'll wonder if it'll just be easier to hand out an FAQ page about you and your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
