9 Reasons Why Your Mom Is The Best Person To Call

Hello, college student who is reading this when you probably have a hundred other things to be doing. Trying to balance something along the lines of being a full-time student, work a job, keep an internship, hold a chair position in your organization and try to have a decent social life is not an easy task! Trust me, I know. You can try to confide in your friends, maybe your boyfriend or that bottle of wine, but let's be real—no one gets you quite like the one who gave birth to you.

Your mom is your go-to girl! Your day one babe! And is most definitely the best person to call when you are stressed out. High school did not prepare you for half the stuff you are going through, and it's a good thing mama is just a phone call away, or if you are lucky enough, there when you get home. She is simply the best person to call when your life is in shambles, or so you think.

1. You cried to her when you fell off your bike, so you can for sure cry to her when you have a million things going on and you forgot to turn in that assignment. And she will always be there no matter how ugly your crying face is.

2. Mom has been there. She gets it (hopefully). She was young once, and she knows that it is hard and that you should just do the best that you can. Her advice comes from years of experience. She's been in your shoes before and knows exactly what you need, and she is great at telling you that.

3. She keeps it real! Moms won't tell you what you want to hear but what you need to hear. As much as it sucks, it's so important that you hear it.

4. The sound of a mom's voice is something that just seems to be able to soothe you when you are freaking out.

5. Moms seem to have a way to make it OK that you did something wrong. Your friends may not like it, but a mom knows that you are gonna be OK and figure it out.

6. She knows you the best. When you call her, she knows by the tone of your voice how exactly you are feeling. It can be creepy at times, but she knows that you don't need to hear how bad she feels for you. Instead, she will come at you with a funny story or memory.

7. She's the ultimate role model. I think calling her when you are upset is like asking in a secret way that you are doing the right thing. Because you strive to be half of everything that she is. So, it's a little reassurance to call mom and know that you are not gonna become a homeless drug dealer dropping out of school.

9. And most importantly... No one loves you like your mama.

So, thank you, Mom, for being my first call that I make when I need to cry, a laugh, some advice, someone to vent to or simply sharing my day. Thanks for answering all 10 phone calls in a day, no matter what time it is, and always believing in me and my crazy dreams. I can't imagine life without you. I would probably be drowning in my own stress and tears.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
