If you’re anything like me, you are currently battling the end of semester plague. Perfect timing for it, right? Being sick in college is actually the worst thing ever.
1. You have no time to actually go to the doctor.
The only time I have to go to the doctor is after my classes at 7 pm, and then I’m going to have to go to the after hours clinic, where I will wait for a long time. To top it off, I’ll probably get more sick there, only to be told to take some Tylenol PM and rest.
2. Medicine is surprisingly expensive.
When someone asks what you want for Christmas, just tell them NyQuil, because that stuff is expensive but very important to the survival of a sick college student.
3. You don’t have any time to sleep.
Just because you’re sick doesn’t mean your school workload slows down. Pulling all-nighters or having to get up for 8 a.m. classes is not exactly the ideal sleep schedule for someone who is sick.
4. Professors aren’t exactly forgiving when you miss class.
One time I emailed my professor a note saying that I was at the doctor’s office that day and that was why I missed class. I even included proof that I was there. He marked me absent and gave me a 0% on what I had missed because it wasn’t a good excuse.
5. People in class hate you for being sick in class.
As I said before, you actually have to attend class. But people in class hate when you sniffle, cough, blow your nose, sneeze, exist, etc. There’s no happy medium here.
6. You have to take care of yourself.
Mom? Dad? The dog? Someone show me sympathy, please!
7. You have to walk in the cold to class.
If you aren’t walking in the cold, you’re in a bus with the heat cranked up to 900 degrees (which is even worse if you ask me).
8. Being sick = not working.
For those who have super cool part-time jobs in college, this one is a kicker. No work = no rent money. My boss sent me home for being sick before, and my bank account took a hit that month when the rent was due.
9. When you finally get better, a sick person coughs on you … and it starts all over again.
The only way to be healthy in college is to just hide at home for the remainder of your college years.
