9 Reasons Having A Little Brother Is The Best

On the night my brother was born, I cried. My parents hadn't clued me in on the gender of my new younger sibling, but I was positive it would be a girl. I would finally have a forever friend who I could share clothes with, play dolls with, and put makeup on. Then, my world was flipped upside down when I found out that instead of having another girl in the house, I was going to have to deal with a boy. Disgusting, right? Little did I know that a long way down the road, this little brother who I dreaded and sometimes hated would turn out to become a best friend and one of the most loved and important people in my life. Here are 9 reasons why having a little brother is the best.

1. He is Your Biggest Fan (And Vice Versa)

Through everything you ever do, your little brother will always be there to cheer you on. Every choir concert, band concert, musical, graduation, awards ceremony, etc, hes always there for you. And even when he can't be there, you know how proud he is. And when it's his turn, you're there too watching his succeed with so much pride.

2. You Shared A Childhood

Everything you went through as a child, he did too. You get to bond over all the memories of family vacations and laugh about all the stupid fights everyone had. There's no one else in the world that understands you better than your siblings, and for me that is my little bro.

3. You Get to Be a Role Model

To me, there's no better feeling and no better motivator than getting to be a role model. It is so great watching my little brother look up to me and learn lessons from all my experiences. It makes me want to be the best person I can be so that I can inspire him to be the best he can be. When he was born, it was like I was turned into an adult. I became conscious of my decisions and what I was doing because I knew that I finally had an effect on someone. Someone was looking to me for guidance, and overnight I had to become someone to look up to.

4. He Won't Steal All Your Clothes and Makeup

If my wish had been granted and I was given a baby sister I would have been in for years and years of getting my clothes, makeup, and everything else "borrowed" from me. Now the only thing my sibling tries to take is my food. But even though I didn't get to inspire the fashion choices my little sister would have had, I did get to help my brother find his style when he got old enough to care about the clothes he was wearing.

5. He Becomes a Friend

If you told me 6 years ago that I would consider my little brother one of my best friends I would have laughed at you. We HATED each other for the majoirty of our lives. Everyday was full of yelling and fighting. He'd hit me, I'd bite back. I'm not really sure when this ended, but it sure did. Suddenly, he was no longer this little twerp that was nothing more than an annoyance in my life, but a best best friend.

6.Willing To Stick Up For You

No matter what happens, I know my little brother will always be there to take my side, pick me up when I'm down, and stand up to whoever or whatever has got me down. And because of the testosterone in brothers, this often includes threatening to beat anyone up. It's a sweet gesture but one that I would never take advanatge of. But, even so, it's good to know that if anything ever goes wrong, I have someone who is willing to kill for me.

7.Always Winning

As the older sister, I am used to winning. I'm used to winning arguments, winning the front seat in the car, winning the side of my parents, and up until he grew twice my size, winning in sports. Being the older sibling makes you wiser, stronger, faster, and overall more likely to win. So thanks little bro for always taking the lose, even if you didn't deserve it. I'm sorry mom always believed me over you, and that you didn't know what the front seat of the car felt like until I moved to college. But, actually im not sorry cause being older is the best.

8. You Get to Watch Him Grow

Watching your brother mature into a wonderful handsome man is so rewarding. It's amazing that I've been here watching him from his first day of kindergarten, to his first baseball game, to helping him pick out his 8th grade dance outfit, to seeing him in his first play, to helpinging him ask a girl to prom. I've gotten to be there for all of it, and I'll get to be there forever, watching him take his next steps into adulthood. I can't wait.

9. He Loves Me Unconditionally

He knows all my faults and all my troubles, but still he loves me. And even though I can see his flaws too, I love him back. He's the one guy I know will always be there to love me, even at my worst times. He's picked me up from the bottom and helped me through the worst, and for him I'd do the same. It's an amazing feeling knowing that you've always got your little bro to have your back.

There's a special day to celebrate your mom and your dad. But, brother's don't get that same kind of recognition. My little brother has been there for me when no one was. He's gotten me through family functions and heartbreaking drama. So he deserves a million and one thank yous. Thanks bro, for everything you do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
