1. You have more time for friends
Everyone knows that people in relationships suddenly forget that they ever had friends and ignore them in favor of their significant other, but your friends don't have to worry about you forgetting them! You have all the free time in the world to smother them with your love and your occasional rants about the likelihood of you dying alone, and they'll be there to smother and rant right back at you. Friendship is magical.
2. You aren't constantly worrying about someone else
I mean, you still worry about your friends and family, but your every waking moment isn't spent worrying about whether or not someone else is happy/sad/upset/hungry/lonely/any other adjective. It's quite relaxing.
3. You don't have to share your meals with anyone
You can order as many pizzas with as many toppings as you'd like and not have to worry about someone else stealing half of it for themselves. You go scarf down that pizza all by yourself and let your bloated stomach bathe in the greatness that is not having to share your food with anyone else simply because you love them.
4. You can watch whatever you want on Netflix
You don't have to sit through 10 episodes of Breaking Bad or a generic Jason Statham movie before your significant other will let you switch back to Happy Endings. You're free to watch whatever you'd like without any judgment. No wonder people equate being single with being free. What sweet, sweet freedom we have at our fingertips.
5. The only person you need to pamper is yourself
That's right, folks. When you're single, you don't have to hoard all your money close to holidays and search aggressively for the perfect present to make your partner happy. The only person you have to worry about treating is, that's right, YO' SELF. (But don't splurge too much because, you know, student loans and such.)
6. You can really focus on your studies
Okay, you probably won't utilize all of the free time you would've spent on dates actually studying. But at least you'll get in enough Netflix binge-watching and gossiping and talking about your problems during that free time that you'll be able to really focus on your homework later on.
7. You have time to read all those books you've been meaning to get to
You know the ones--they're famous and impressive and usually (but not exclusively) on required reading lists for most public high schools in America. They're great conversation starters for when you're in a group of people whom you've never spoken to before and don't feel like talking about the crazy weather anymore. Or, if you're like me, you'll use this free time to re-read the classics you've already read seven times. Still time well-spent, though.
8. You get the bed all to yourself
First off, your bed is the best significant other you could ever ask for. Secondly, without someone there to steal half of it (or more) from you, you and your bed are free to let your everlasting love blossom and be free. Love away, my friend. Love away.
9. You get to focus on loving yourself
Loving yourself is hard. Like, "This $5 bill is too crinkly for the vending machine to accept but its the only cash I have on me so I'm gonna make this work, damn it, if it's the very last thing I get to do on this planet" kind of hard. But, being single, is the perfect time to channel your inner-Jenna Maroney (turned down a few notches, of course) and learn to love yourself without someone else telling you all the reasons you're worth loving.
Sure, being in a relationship is fun and all, but that doesn't mean you should get down on yourself for, well, being by yourself. Always remember that there's a lot to be happy about when you're single. You're a god/goddess, single or not, and you don't need another person beside you to help you see the brighter sides of life.
