In this society, there is one common thread that is important to pretty much every single person I have ever met: clear skin. While some of us will go to the extremes to do whatever it takes to achieve a flawless glow, some of prefer a low-maintenance routine. Regardless of the lifestyles we prefer, we all want clear skin.
Being someone who wears a lot of makeup, my skin looks pretty good (if I do say so myself) the majority of the time. A lot of people tend to assume that this is because I wear so much makeup and I'm just covering up my blemishes. Although I do use makeup to cover up any problem spots, I also do have relatively really clear skin. My secret? These few simple steps:
1. Wash your face every night.
While I would hope that this is the most basic advice and that everyone does this, washing your face is so important. Even on days where you aren't wearing makeup, you still get a lot of buildup on your face and it's important to take a few minutes each day to wash it all off with a good face wash.
2. Face masks.
Although face masks don't always show immediate results, overtime they do make your face a lot softer and reduce the amount of problem areas that you have. There are so many types of face masks that all treat different issues so it's important to find that one works for you.
3. Never sleep with makeup on.
Again, I hope this is obvious. Although sometimes we forget or feel to lazy to wash our makeup off before bed, it needs to be done! And not just with a makeup wipe either; you need to clean your face with water and a quality face wash. Your pores will thank you for it.
4. Change you pillow case.
Even if you don't sleep with makeup on, your pillow case does get surprisingly dirty over time. I mean, you spend roughly eight hours every night rubbing your face on it. It's so easy to just throw it in the wash every now and then to get it cleaned.
5. Drink water.
Drinking water helps pretty much every aspect of your health and body, skin included. Drinking water truly does give your skin some glow.
6. Learn you skin type.
Different types of skin require different types of care routines. For example, I have very dry skin so I need to moisturize every night unless I want to look cracky the next day. My family, however, have super oily skin and moisturizer would only add to the problem. Learn which skin type you have and which products will work for you.
7. No make up days.
As tempting as it is to cover up your blemishes with makeup, letting them breathe is important. I'm a hypocrite of this one, but not wearing makeup lets your skin breathe and the difference after skipping makeup for even just a few days is truly remarkable.
8. Medication.
Check which kinds of acne medications are covered by your insurance. You'd be surprised. I've been on a pill that reduced my acne and helped me get it under control for a little while. Even trying out birth control can fix your skin so much.
9. Get some sun.
Definitely the easiest and most enjoyable way to take care of you skin is just to go out and get some Vitamin D! It's no secret that your skin needs it and the glow you have after some time in the sun is no coincidence!
