Women quite simply, rock. Somehow, despite oppression, a pessimistic society, and numerous injustices, we have somehow managed to rise above. All women are great and most are inspiring, which is fantastic whenever you may feel down in the dumps about the state of the world. I often find myself spending large amounts of time admiring awesome women and trying to think of ways to be more like them.

This is a list of the women I feel indebted to. Women who have proven to me that there is good in the world, despite how hard it might be to see it sometimes. This list is in no way complete or perfect, but neither are the women on it. They simply inspire me to keep on trying no matter the obstacle and to always stay inspired. I know that my list will continue to grow with time and it is my hope that yours does as well.

  • Hilary Clinton
    • Whether or not you agree with her politically, there is no denying that she has helped paved the way for millions of women everywhere. She has become an inspiration in proving nothing is impossible for a women to achieve when they are passionate and want to do good.
  • J.K. Rowling
    • Not only has she blessed this world with the magic that is Harry Potter, but she has committed much of her life to philanthropy. She supports causes which stem from supporting single parenting families to donating royalties from one of her bestselling books to the Army Benevolent Fund.
  • Mindy Kaling
    • Being a comedian is tough and being a female comedian is even harder. This hasn't stopped Kaling from becoming one of the funniest women on television. From creating and starring in her own show to writing and acting in "The Office," Kaling has proven that being a woman and being funny shouldn't be an associated challenge.
  • Gloria Steinem
    • One woman who isn't afraid to tell it like it is. We can only thank her for her work in the feminist movement and her passion for demanding equal opportunity in this world. Her "Address to Women in America" stirs something inside even the hardest of hearts.
  • Janelle Monáe
    • I love a girl who can rock a tux and Monáe has been at the forefront of challenging women's fashion restrictions since the beginning. Her advice to girls to embrace their uniqueness even at the expense of other's comfort will forever be relevant.
  • Emma Watson
    • First, she was Hermione, and now she's an actual Disney princess. Not to mention the fact that she is a humanitarian and Equal Rights Activist who gave ground moving speech at a United Nations conference on behalf of the HeforShe campaign.
  • Maya Angelou
    • She is most known for encouraging women to rise to their full potential through award-winning and internationally recognized poems, prose, and screenplays. Her influence and inspiration was recognized and awarded by presidents such as Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama.
  • Severn Cullis-Suzuki
    • Infamously known as “The Girl Who Silenced the World,” Cullis-Suzuki proved that age has no merit when it comes to addressing right and wrong. Her speech, while given in 1992 is still as applicable to the world today as it was then.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
