The Holidays is my favorite season of all. School is out, everyone is in good spirit, shopping in the city, drinking Starbucks holiday beverages in their festive red cups and there are full of things to do with your family and loved ones this time of year! Here are my top 8 recommendations for winter adventures in Seattle to keep you entertained in December.
1. Snow Flake Lane
Experience the holiday magic in the heart of Downtown Bellevue. Snow Flake Lane is a 20-minute holiday performance of live toy soldiers, winter characters, glittering lights, snowfall and music that will brighten anyones spirits! Plus, it is free to the public.
2. Wild Waves Holiday with Lights
“Enjoy a magical evening with more than 25 amusement rides and attractions all illuminated in lights.” Every evening at 7pm and 8pm, you can join Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer in a festive sing along! Another attraction they have is Toyland where you can play in a falling snow tent or make holiday crafts.
3. Visit Santa at the mall
Whether you are 5, 15 or even 25 years old…. Visit the old man at the mall. All of the parents waiting with their children will be giving you funny looks but so what? Grab your friends and take pictures with Santa! It will for sure be a great memory with laughs and giggles!
4. Leavenworth
Leavenworth, Washington is a winter sports destination. In December and January, The Christmas Lighting Festival in Leavenworth brings families from all over Washington to the village this time of year. The Bavarian themed tourist town and mountains of snow make it the picture perfect place to capture moments with your loved ones.
5. Wildlights and Zoolights
If you like animals and lights, you’re going to be interested in going to Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo and Tacoma’s Point Defiance Zoo. The grounds are decorated with thousands of lights that are lit up at night that will take you to on a whole different zoo experience.
6. Snoqualmie Pass
Another must-do activity in the area. The Summit at Snoqualmie is just an hour drive from downtown Seattle. It has four areas: Summit West, Summit Central, Summit East and Alpental, which all offer something for everyone like, inner tubing, skiing, snowboarding. This is a great way to stay active and adventure during the winter!
7. Ice Skating
Ice skating during the holidays just feels right. Winter and ice skating just go hand in hand. My favorite place to go to growing up is Kent Valley Ice Centre. There are lights, music and even a food court! You could always skip the indoor ones and go old school and go to the seasonal ones that are located outdoors, which ever you prefer, ice skating is a must!
8. Seattle Center Winter Fest
A month long celebration right under the Space Needle. There’s a huge Winter Train and Village that I loved going to as a kid and even as an adult! While shopping, you can enjoy locals performing on the stage. There’s also performances that goes on at the Seattle Children’s Theatre, like The Nutcracker! It starts the day after Thanksgiving all the way through to New Year’s Eve!
So, grab a friend, go outside and enjoy the numerous winter activities Seattle has to offer and make this winter the best one yet! Happy Holidays everyone! XOXO
