It’s almost February already and we all know what that means. Every store has been stocking their selves with candy and stuffed animals since right after Christmas. Recently, the stores have added extra aisles to fulfill the Valentine’s Day holiday and have turned their store into a rainbow of reds and pinks. Some people don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day either because they don’t have a significant other or because they believe the holiday is overrated. Others celebrate Valentine’s Day to the fullest extent. I’m somewhere in the middle since I believe that you should appreciate your significant other every day without using the holiday as an excuse to do so. Even if you don’t want to go all-out this article is for you!
1. Dinner Date
This will be my boyfriend and I’s second Valentine’s Day together. Last year we went to Olive Garden to celebrate. We arrived there to see a lobby full of people since we couldn’t make a reservation. Luckily, here in Saginaw, the Olive Garden has a large restaurant with plenty of seating. We only waited at the most, forty-five minutes for our table. The service was amazing and we were in and out in around an hour. It was a great way to celebrate and we are thinking of going back again this year.
Even though restaurants can be very loud on busy days, it doesn’t matter as long as you get to be with the one that you love.
2. Bowling
We always go bowling (it’s like a once every two weeks’ occurrence). Even though we go so often, I would still really enjoy going on Valentine’s Day. Usually, we go in a large group so this time we would go alone to celebrate us, but it is in our element, which makes it enjoyable.
Couples that either don’t go often or hate to bowl would still have a great time either just enjoying each other’s company or laughing at how horrible you both are at this sport.
3. Ice Skating
In the Winter months, it’s hard to find a skating rink that doesn’t have hockey games going on all day. If you do happen to find one that has open skating, take the chance. I have been wanting to go ice skating forever but can never find time when they are open.
I think it would be amazing to stumble upon someone’s hidden talents, if they so happen to be good at ice skating. Personally, it would make for a great laugh because I’m clumsier than most of America’s population.
4. Attend a Concert
If you are looking to spend a little more on a Valentine’s Day celebration, this would be a great way to do it. It would be a nice gesture to buy tickets for someone based on their musical tastes. More than likely, during the concert there will be a love song playing, where you can dance with your companion.
We all do things that we don’t particularly care for to please our boyfriends/girlfriends. Even if you don’t like that kind of music or that artist/band, the only two things that matter is that they are happy and you are with them.
5. Hang Out with Friends
Whether in a relationship or not, hanging out with friends is a fun way to celebrate the holiday. You could go on a double date or have a movie night.
I always try to spend as much time with my friends and boyfriend at the same time. It’s healthy for your relationships all-around.
6. Cuddle
If you are on a budget, or just don’t feel like doing anything you can always cuddle. Who doesn’t love that? Turn on a movie, or any show you both enjoy and just watch T.V.
Some people are too busy, or on opposite schedules of their significant other to sit down and spend quality time with each other, Valentine’s Day is the day to change it.
7. Homemade Gifts
I love homemade presents (actually, just the making of them). Since my boyfriend and I go out to eat, he usually pays for dinner. I make him something to balance it out. Last year, I made him a huge Reese’s bouquet.
Homemade gifts can be completely made by hand, or have some elements of being handmade.
8. See a Movie
Personally, the only movie out right now that sounds good is "Hidden Figures". Everyone has different tastes so maybe a movie date is the best option for you. This idea can also be good for friends or double dates.
If you decide to go all out, you could mix dinner and a movie date or hopefully find a drive-in theater.
There are plenty of ideas to have a good Valentine’s Day, these are just my top eight. It doesn’t matter what you do this Valentine’s Day as long as you’re in good company.
