As an avid subscriber /reader to the TV Guide Magazine, I always look forward to their summer issue which discusses the upcoming television shows set to air for the summer season, which is normally known as a "boring" time period for television. While your summer plans may currently consist of sitting out by the beach or reading a good book in your backyard, this list is for those rainy summer days or the days you just want to relax in your cool, air-conditioned house to take a break from the heat.
Below is my list of TV shows to look out for this summer.
"The $100,000 Pyramid"
I'm not one to usually watch gameshows, but I was lucky enough to be able to sit in the audience for the taping of this revival series. Many Kelly Ripa fans may not want to give Michael Strahan (host) a second chance after his betrayal, but they should. From the episode I saw, this series will be a fun, yet competitive competition where we can play along at home and root for our favorite celebrity guests.
Premieres June 26 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
"Scream"
If you've seen the movies, then you will love the television re-boot. The cast lives up to the roles played by Courtney Cox and Neve Campbell in the "Scream" saga. The first season aired last summer, but you're in luck! It is currently streaming on Netflix and there is time to catch up before its May 30 premiere.
Season two premieres May 30 at 11 p.m. on MTV.
"Wrecked"
I, for one, am very excited for this "Lost" parody. "Lost" was a complex series about a group of plane crash survivors on a deserted island, and "Wrecked" will mock the series.
Premieres June 14 at 10 p.m. on TBS.
"The 'New' Celebrity Apprentice"
As we all know, Donald Trump is too busy making a mockery of the election process to run everyone's favorite celebrity competition series. So this season, Arnold Schwarzenegger will be taking charge of the boardroom. A premiere date has yet to be announced, but it is expected to be soon as filming has been complete for quite some time.
"Below Deck: Mediterranean"
This spin-off from the "Bravo" TV series follows a group of yacht workers as they encounter demanding guests as well as on-board drama. The series has already premiered on Bravo, but we are only a few episodes in. There is still time to catch up and become an honorary "yachtie"!
"UnREAL"
This Lifetime series premiered last summer, and was a hit. It follows a reality show known as "Everlasting," which is a parody of ABC's "Bachelor" franchise. One of the shows writers used to work for "The Bachelor," and her goal is to clue the audience in on what really happens on a dating reality show. Trust me when I say it's not what you think.
Season two premieres June 6 at 10 p.m. on Lifetime.
"American Gothic"
If you love a good murder mystery, then this show is for you. And to make it even better, the show is currently only ordered for 13 episodes, meaning we won't have to wait during a hiatus to discover, what I assume, will be a twist-filled conclusion. Not much has been disclosed about the plot, other than the prominent Boston setting.
Premieres June 22 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
"Dead of Summer"
Keeping with the theme of suspense, "Dead of Summer" follows a group of teens at a mysterious summer camp. It takes place in the late '80s.
Premieres June 28 at 9 p.m. on Freeform.
