I was diagnosed with anxiety when I was only 13. I've been on medication for my anxiety since I was 16. I've learned a few tricks and tips that have helped my live with my anxiety and not let it take over my entire life.
Of course, I'm not a doctor or a professional. These are things that work for me.
1. Water, water and more water.
I forget that water is a thing sometimes until I'm dehydrated. It's pretty self-explanatory. Water is a basic human need and without it you just feel sick and tired.
2. Carry around a planner.
A lot of my anxiety is based around me not making it to work or class on time or forgetting things I had planned for the day. In this past year, I started carrying around a few different planners; just your standard monthly planner and one for lists and things I need to get done. It has definitely helped relieve that anxiety.
3. Take a "mental health" day.
It's like a sick day, but for mental health. Your mental health is the most important thing, especially if you have a mental illness. This day consists of you sleeping in until noon, having a bath, drinking a glass or two of wine and binge watching your favorite show on Netflix.
4. Confide in someone.
Whether it's a best friend or a significant other or even a journal, you need to talk about your anxiety to someone who knows you more than your average twitter follower. It's always nice to have someone you can talk to when things get bad.
5. Long, hot baths.
Run a hot bath, throw in a Lush bath bomb, some bubbles, (another) glass or two of wine. It's the greatest way to wind down after a really long day.
6. SLEEP
Sleep is an answer to every question.
7. Treat. Yo. Self.
Saw a cute sweater? Buy it. Saw a cute puppy? Buy that too. Want a piece cheesecake? Buy 7. You and your needs (sometimes wants) come first.
8. Put yourself first. Always.
It's okay to be selfish sometimes. If you need it, call in, ditch class. Your mental health and sanity go hand in hand and they should always come first.
