1. You Know The University Inside And Out

The first couple weeks you couldn’t tell the west wing from the east wing, nevermind finding a bathroom. Now you could walk the entire campus with your eyes closed.

2. You're A Pro At Navigating Your Environment

Not only have you become a map of the campus, if you're like me you're also a walking map of lower Manhattan. Street names that were once foreign are now home. You know where McDonald's is, which sketchy stores to avoid etc. To top it off, you’ve mastered the subway to the point where you can keep your balance without holding on to the poles - yes as a Jersey girl I am proud of this.

3. You Use The Slang And Your Style Changes

Your style may very well have done a 180, or, if you're like me, it just got really expensive. You’ll find yourself liking clothing your high school self would’ve hated. You’ll do your makeup in new ways. The slang of your university magically becomes second nature.

4. You Start To Change

Overall, once you’re adjusted you’ll start to change. In the beginning, you hold on to what you're comfortable with because it’s all you know. You’re still mapping out your new environment and the people there so it’s hard to grow, but once you're adjusted it just happens.

5. You Become Closer To Your Friends

6. You Become More Ambitious

You’ve conquered this environment and now you’re ready for a new challenge. Study abroad? Internship?

7. You Notice The Flaws In Your University

For example: the cafeteria food made you gain five pounds, the Starbucks line is ridiculous, and can we all say a prayer for the elevator traffic.

8. You've All But Forgotten About High School

Did it even happen?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
