1. It’s a lot of work…

Since you are a “student-athlete” you ultimately must put your academics before your athletic career. It’s a lot of juggling around from class to class to practice and then trying to fit time for food and sleep is a struggle.
2. Professors don’t care that you’re an athlete

Pretty self explanatory but they really don’t care… You don't get special treatment like they show in the movies.
3. Student Services for Athletes is the best resource

[I mean if you count this as special treatment then okay]
But, these people are probably one of the most important resources you’ll have while transitioning from high school to college. They will help you more than your university given academic advisor ever will. They are lovely to talk to when you’re having a bum day or just when you’re waiting for practice to start. They really do care
4. Keep a schedule

Coming to college, you’re given a lot of free time but when you have to include practice/ games/meets into your schedule you learn how to keep track of what you need to do and when. You don’t really have time to waste when you’re running (literally and figuratively) from class to class to practice.
5. Sleep is your best friend

While other people are going out for the night you can probably find me getting ready for bed or a nice Netflix marathon. Being a student-athlete, you can’t really go out on Thirsty Thursday because you have 8ams or practice in the morning. Your priorities become academics, athletics, and sleep.
6. NARPs...

If you don’t know this acronym it means “Non Athlete Regular Person.” They do not understand the struggles of being a student athlete even if they say they do. Picture this… You just get back from classes and a three hour long practice of sprints and lifting and just want to complain about how hard the day. They respond, “Oh my god, I know! I had three classes today and only an hour in-between! I didn’t even have time to come back and take a nap after class.” Then here’s my face: -___-
7. Walking around campus is a struggle

The morning after leg day. Enough said.
8. Your team is your new family
They took me in and have shown me the do’s and do not’s of campus. They are the people I can count on to stay in with me on a Friday and Saturday night. They’re the girls I can call on when I’m stressed out of my mind and just want a shoulder to cry on. They become your family whether you like it or not, and it’s usually the first one.
