While we are already a little into the new year, I figure that it is never too late to make resolutions and (try to) stick to them. Here are some changes that I believe everyone can make in their lives to make 2016 a wonderful year.
1. Set goals for yourself
This one is pretty easy, because if you are reading this and considering making resolutions.. well, there are some of your goals already.
2. Meet new people
Go interact with others, make connections. Who knows, a total stranger might end up becoming one of your best friends by the end of the year.
3. Get rid of the unnecessary people in your life
We all have people in our lives who are only holding us back. Yes, I am talking about the people who are never appreciative of the things you do for them, the boy (or girl) that you run back to no matter how many times you say you are done, or that friend who is always so extremely indecisive or flaky that it does nothing but affect you negatively.
4. Get more sleep
I never appreciated what an amazing thing sleep is when I was younger. But now, in between school work and having a social life, those few power naps I get to have every now and then are what I look forward to most. Plan out your schedule to allow yourself to get more rest - trust me, you’ll thank yourself later.
5. Keep in touch with what is happening around the world
Whether it is reading a physical copy of a newspaper, reading an online version, or even looking at the “trending” section on Twitter, just keep yourself updated with what is happening on both a national and global scale.
6. Spend time alone
Make some time either every day or every week for yourself. Reflect on what you are doing, what you can improve, and just keep in touch with your inner self.
7. Speak your mind
Too often, people hide the way they feel and don’t say the things they want to say. While I’m not saying that you should be completely unfiltered, I believe learning to express your thoughts and emotions properly will help you be a happier person this year.
9. Do at least one thing from your bucket list
We all have things we want to do in our lives. Whether it is going skydiving, getting a tattoo, visiting another country or any other thing exciting thing you want to do in life, make sure to complete at least one of those tasks this year.
The key to sticking to a resolution is, every time your resolve starts to waver, remind yourself that a little bit of self-control can go a long way in helping yourself become the best you can be.So here’s to all of us keeping our resolutions this year, and here’s hoping that everyone has an amazing 2016.
