This is your year, kiddos. It’s time for "out with the old and in with the new." Whether you're slacking on taking care of yourself or looking to expand your interests, setting a New Year’s resolution for 2016 is something everyone should do. Whether or not you keep up with it all year long is based on your motivation and passion to better yourself. Not quite sure what your resolution should be or if you should even set one? Take a look-see at this list of possibilities I’ve compiled for you -- who knows, maybe something will grab you!
Try to steer clear of setting specific resolutions relating to a particular number (pounds, miles, hours, and so on.) or attaining a very specific goal. You will be most successful if you set a goal to better yourself in a more general sense.
1. Stop being so hard on yourself
You’re on your own team; be good to yourself when things aren’t going so hot.
2. Being open to trying new things
This is how you grow as a person; trying something you never have before forces you out of your comfort zone.
3. Learn to love yourself
This is muy importante! It’s hard to do, but once you figure it out, life is a heck of a lot better.
4. Set time aside to relax
With a busy class schedule, alongside your jam-packed social calendar (ugh, so popular), it gets tricky fitting in “me” time. Let’s fix that this year
5. Put more effort into friendships
Backing out on plans or failing to keep in touch is unfortunately a trend for many college students. Having friends is one of the best parts of life, so give your homies some lovin’ this year.
6. Appreciate time with family
This is especially important in college. Our time is limited with the fam, so it's important to squeeze in as much quality time as you can.
7. Keep your promises
Be good to your word this year. Don’t commit to doing something if you don’t think it’ll actually happen. The people around you will appreciate it.
8. Be more spontaneous
YOLO. Enough said.
9. Take chances
What do you really have to lose anyway?
10. Keep your space organized
Whether it’s just your desk or your entire bedroom, commit to keeping it clean this year. You’ll be way more productive and it’ll be way nicer to look at.
11. Be more patient
Not everything can just happen overnight; life is a waiting game, so it's no use trying to rush. Whether it’s the right internship or job, it’ll come -- don’t fret!
12. Realize that you don't need to have everything figured out
That’s the thing about being in our 20s: We don’t need to know what’s going on. We just have to keep moving forward and figuring out life as it goes.
No matter what you choose to be your New Year’s resolution, realize that you’re going to screw up sometimes and that’s OK. It’s all about working toward becoming the best you. Don’t sweat the small stuff; the fact that you’re trying is what matters.
Happy New Year and good luck, everyone!
Bless up.
