We were graced with Rihanna's presence in 2005 by her instant, chart topping hits "Pon de Replay" and "SOS". She then grew in popularity rapidly throughout the years, notably for her amazing vocals, crass lyrics and an infamous relationship with fellow singer, Chris Brown. We've seen her rise and fall, and then rise again. To me, she will always be on top. Here are eight reasons why.
1. She still uses a Hot Pink Motorola Razor in 2016.
I mean... This is just amazing. How many of us begged our parents to buy us the pink razor in 2006? Now, Rihanna is rocking it in 2016. Not the gold, rose gold or silver iPhone 6s, not the Galaxy S7, but the 2006 magenta Motorola Razor. I can't, I just can't. How can she manage to make everything look chic, even a ten year old cellphone? In a time where everyone has to have the latest and greatest iPhone, RiRi is still rocking the flip phone. Am I the only one that's going to go scour through storage now to look for my old razor? Incredible.
2. She Accessorizes with Wine
Normal people usually accessorize with a cute hat, sunglasses, jewelry, scarf or maybe a bag, but not Rihanna. She has recently been spotted accessorizing with wine. Yes, wine. Long stemmed glass and all. She does not discriminate between red and white, but as you can see, the wine colors seem to coincidently coordinate with her ensembles. My kinda girl! Rumor has it that most of the time, the glasses she's holding are actually from the restaurants that she is pictured leaving. Does that cost extra? Who knows!
3. She gives Zero F**ks on Social Media
One thing is for sure, Rihanna certainly lives up the her Instagram handle, @BadGalRiRi. She gives zero f's when it comes to social media. First off, look at her avi (pictured below). She has over 40 million followers and her profile picture is a stick drawing of herself with two eyes a straight lined mouth and some curly hair buns. The real funny part is that she keeps on posting this "self portrait" on her social media in different variations. In the middle left photo, we see her stick figure again but this time it's paired with a Drake version. This is how she promotes her platinum selling albums you guys, with stick figure drawings. You can see in the other pictures below that she loves to show her "stick-self" in different situations. The middle right picture is her just being her, holding a balloon. Okay. The bottom left picture is a stick figure version of her Vanity Fair photo shoot in 2015. Please take note of the voluptuous butt. Finally, the bottom right photo is a drawing of her thanking Rio, Brazil for a great performance. Is she wearing a yellow trash bag? Iconic. Not only does she post ridiculously absurd drawings, she also posts fashion looks, videos, paparazzi shots and countless seductive selfies. She was even banned briefly from Instagram in 2014 for posting too many nipple-baring photos from her "Lui Magazine" cover shoot. When she was granted access again, she responded with a meme of herself (see picture below). Of course she did.
4. She is the Queen of Shade
Who doesn't love to read about shady celebrity beef? Although Rihanna isn't a part of many scandals, she sure does like to throw shade. No-one is safe when RiRi is in the mood to read someone to filth. She will not hesitate to cast shade upon fans, other celebs, strangers and even herself occasionally. This is true entertainment. Rihanna is famous for responding to tweets mentioned about her and comments on her Insta posts. Below, I have compiled a few of the best shady RiRi moments. My personal fav, the #clapback.
Me after reading these tweets and comments:
5. Her songs will have you twerking one minute, missing your ex the next and then back to twerking and chanting, "I DON'T NEED NO MAN"
Each of Rihanna's albums are an emotional rollercoaster to say the least. Songs like "Talk That Talk", "Rude Boy", "Only Girl", "Where Have You Been" and of course "Work", will have you dancing your a** off in a matter of seconds. Anyone that knows me personally can confirm the fact that whenever "Work" comes on, I instantly become a different person.
The emotional rollercoaster part comes in when the song is changed to something like "Farewell", "Stay", "What Now", "Higher" or "Close To You". All of these songs will have you either crying, contemplating life, regretting something, texting an ex or all of the above.
The one good thing about rollercoasters is that they always come back up eventually. Songs like "Cockiness", "Man Down", "Raining Men", "Pour It Up" and "Needed Me" will all get you back on your feet. You'll be twerking, unfollowing all your exes and downloading Tinder in no time. Rihanna's songs have a way of giving you a "F*** It/Him/That" attitude, yet another reason why I love her and her music.
6. Her Relationship with Drake.
We have all witnessed the DriDri drama throughout the years. Yet another emotional rollercoaster. The sexual tension between these two could slice a big ol' piece of cake, cake, cake, cake, cake (see what I did there). Have they sealed the deal or not, who knows? They were rumored to be dating in 2011, but nothing became official. In 2012, Drake's verse in 2 Chainz's song "No Lie" appeared to be a direct dis towards RiRi. Now fast forward to 2016, their song "Work" is a number one hit and their sexual chemistry is through the roof. All I have to say about this is that I wish I was her, yet again.
7. She is THE Style Icon of Our Time

This might be my favorite part about Rihanna. As a lover of fashion myself, RiRi has steadily been my style icon for several years now. From red carpet to street style, she never ceases to amaze me with her bold choices and effortless aura. She is the one celeb that can pretty much get away with wearing anything. Along with getting away with it, she is often praised for it! People often just say, "It's Rihanna", when explaining her fashion choices. That is #Goals. Being able to pull off literally anything because you are so respected in the fashion industry. Here are some of her best looks (in my opinion).
8. She is a Strong Woman
This is by far the most important quality that Rihanna has. She portrays a strong image in her songs, but she also is a very strong woman in real life. As I mentioned earlier, she had an infamous relationship with Chris Brown in the mid 2000's. As most of us know already, this relationship ended pretty badly. Brown ended up being charged with felony assault after brutally beating Rihanna during an argument. The pictures were leaked to the media soon after (see below with caution, graphic image). Brown ended up taking a plea deal which included community service, five years probation and domestic abuse counseling.
The graphic image above shows a bruised and battered Rihanna. I can't even begin to imagine what she went through all while having it plastered over the media. One good thing did eventually come of this. She has been an inspiration to many people that have been in/are in violent relationships. Her story has created a dialog about domestic violence, which is very important.
In 2012, Rihanna did an interview with Oprah in which she said she "lost her best friend" when all this happened and that she was angry for a long time but since has forgiven him.
Despite all this, and whatever else Rihanna has had to overcome in her life, here she is today, one of the best selling and most respected artists of our time. A strong, hard working woman in one of the most male-saturated industries, she has made her mark in history.
She's here to stay and here to slay. All hail the queen.
