8 Reasons Why Our Hook-Up Culture Sucks

Our generation has killed romance, and here’s why.

1. “Want to get dinner with me sometime?” has now turned into “Netflix and chill” and we all know what that really means.

2. Nobody dates anymore they just have f***buddies or are “exclusive” with someone.

For anyone who doesn't know what this means, it means no texting before at least 10 p.m. and definitely, definitely no cuddling.

3. If you do have a f*** buddy and try to turn it into something more (otherwise known as the “What are we?” conversation) you are labeled as crazy and clingy.

This also means you’re not allowed to get jealous when their roommates tell you about the hot girl he brought home the other night, because technically, you’re not dating.

4. The way guys hit on girls nowadays is disgusting. I'm not saying guys should call girls beautiful all the time, but you gotta do better than slapping a girls ass as she walks by.

I mean seriously, when has that ever worked?

5. Girls these days fight so hard for equal rights then simultaneously demanded to be treated like a princess.

Can't have your cake and eat it too, sorry ladies.

6. Social media. So many people have mentioned how social media is bad for relationships, but I can't stress this one enough.

It is way too easy for people to cheat, and get jealous over things they see on Facebook. Ever hear about the guy who divorced his wife over Facebook? Pretty bad right. There are also now so many dating apps such as Tinder, but they honestly are used more for guys to get laid. I can’t remember the last time I found someone on there that didn’t send me a cheesy pickup line followed by some innuendo. And I’m not saying all guys are like that, but the ones who aren’t you probably wont find on tinder.

7. Guys are so obsessed with “not being tied down” and “not being whipped” as if someone better is always going to come along, and they’ll forever be wondering what would happen if they’d stayed with the girl before.

8. Don’t get me wrong, there are nice guys out there. But it seems like all of them are taken, gay or live 12089190 miles away.

I’m not sure if there’s much we can do about it, but there they are, the main reasons why our generation killed romance. I guess it's better than dating in middle school where you’d say you’re dating someone, but really that just meant you texted on weeknights and sat next to each other in class. Ahhh, the good old days. I’m not saying girls should always be treated like princesses, but a little respect would be nice. Oh well, what’re you gonna do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
