1. You will constantly have to explain to people that you are not dating.
You never have and never will. But that will never stop the “You’re meant to be” and “Oh, well you should” comments. Guys and girls can be friends without there being feelings.
2. Because you aren’t dating, when you go out you have one of the best wing men around.
As your best friend, no one knows you and what you deserve better. He sees things from a guys’ perspective and knows the difference between a guy who is genuine and a guy who has an alternative motive. This also helps when trying to decode a text and knowing when you’ve hit friend zone.
3. You become “one of the guys.”
Sometimes, he’ll completely forget you are a girl and you will definitely hear plenty of “guy talk.” The memories you have with him are totally different than memories you have with your girls and usually involve much less intelligent things (somehow couch surfing down a country road seemed safe at one point…)
4. The only fights you’ll have are over the last slice of pizza.
I know it’s really cliché, but it’s true that there is so much less drama with guys. He won’t get his feelings hurt when you tell him he’s being a jerk or when you can’t hang out. Also, neither of you are afraid to call the other out on their crap.
5. Speaking of pizza, he won’t look twice when you eat a whole pizza by yourself.
In fact he’ll probably applaud you. He won't be shocked when you want seconds and isn’t surprised when you tell him you’re hungry: at this point he just expects it and will show up at your door with sweet tea in hand.
6. Any guy you are even slightly interested in, gets screened by them.
If your potential guy doesn’t get along with him, there’s no second thoughts. Your best friend is in it for the long haul and any guy that wants to be with you HAS to get along with him, no questions asked.
7. And if he gets through the screening process, he will be apprehensive about your relationship with your best friend for a while.
He will be suspicious of your relationship for the longest time. He will ask you a million questions about your friendship. And hopefully, one day it hits him that your relationship is 100% platonic.
8. You have learned how to take a punch, and how to give one.
Physical fights are totally normal between the two of you and while he’ll always let you win, he’ll also make sure you know how to fight back. He wouldn’t let you leave for college without knowing some self-defense... Come on now.
