For those of you who don't know Chance the Rapper, he's become one of the most influential up-and-coming artists of 2017 (and not just for his Sprite commercial). He won 3 Grammys for Best New Artist, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Performance all at this last Grammy Awards Show. Along with all of these amazing musical achievements, here's what Chance has done for everyone else:
1. He personally donated $1 million to the Chicago Public Schools.
Michelle Obama even tweeted Chance to show appreciation towards his efforts.
2. He has inspired people like NFL defense man, Michael Bennett, and music producer, Scooter Braun, to donate money to underprivileged neighborhoods.
An article by Huffington Post directly quotes Bennett for his inspiration from Chance.
"I was inspired by Chance the Rapper to ‘think bigger’ when he pledged one million dollars to Chicago kids and their school system." - Michael Bennett, NFL
3. Chance created Social Works, a non-profit organization aimed towards the Chicago Public School system.
This program will match every $100,000 raised for the schools with an additional $10,000 to assist funding.
4. He is full of light and positivity.
I mean, come on, just look at his Twitter! There's even a video deeper in his twitter feed of him building his daughter a play castle...too cute!
5. He bought out an entire theater in Chicago for strangers to see Get Out.
Seriously, who does that? Other than the cast of Hidden Figures buying tickets to their own screenings on behalf of low-income families, random acts of kindness like these are especially hard to come by.
6. He became a board member for the Chicago DuSable Museum of African American History.
7. His songs use positive messages and biblical references.
This is something that is pretty hard to come by in the new-age rap industry. If you listen to any sort of rap that has become influenced by mainstream media, you know that artists like Lil Yachty or 21 Savage aren't exactly making verses about how much they love their mom.
8. He raised $60,000 in 10 days to provide coats for the homeless population in Chicago.
