8 Reasons Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs

I have always grown up with cats. There has been at least one since I was a baby and I still have cats today. Seeing friends with dogs over the years has made me continue to prefer cats. While I do love dogs and will pet one whenever I see it, I will always enjoy the company of cats much more. Here is why:

1. They live longer than dogs.

When you have a pet, you develop a special bond with them. With cats, they typically live longer, giving you more years of companionship than you would have with a dog.

2. Cats are self-sufficient.

Yes, you do have to make sure they have enough food and water, but cats do not require as much care that dogs do. With dogs, you have to worry about letting them outside when they have to go to the bathroom, no matter what the weather is outside. Cats do not have to be let outside all the time. You just have to clean the liter box every so often and they are good to go.

3. Cats won't eat your shoes.

Yes, a cat may accidentally pick your clothes, but a dog will purposely chew on your shoes or anything else you own in addition to picking items with their claws. As far as keeping a good condition of your items, a cat is the way to go.

4. Cats are much more entertaining.

Dogs are predictable. They chase their tails, fetch and chew on things. Each cat is unique in how it plays, making them much more entertaining. Some cats enjoy climbing into drawers, playing with toy mice or climbing into other strange places. There is a reason why cat videos have more views than dog ones.

5. A cat won't keep the neighborhood awake at night.

There is always that one dog in the neighborhood that will not shut up at night. It will bark for the dumbest reasons or no reason at all. You will never have complaints from neighbors that your cat kept them up all night.

6. A cat's purr is much cuter than a dog's bark.

A dog's bark can be cute at first, but can get pretty annoying after the hundredth time. You never hear about people being annoyed by a cat's purr or a cute meow.

7. Bugs do not stand a chance with a cat in the house.

Whether it be a fly or a spider, a cat will make sure it does not live another day. No need for a fly-swatter with a cat in the house. A cat will hunt it down sometimes before you even notice the bug is there.

8. They don't take up nearly as much cuddle room.

With cats, you never have to worry about it being too big to snuggle with. Larger dogs are famous for taking up half the bed and not leaving much room for their humans. Cats are the perfect size to cuddle with while still giving you enough room to stretch out.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
