I am a firm believer in the power of small happinesses. I don't think perfect days are made up of big events. Instead, I think they are made up of small moments, strung together to make something lovely. When perfect days are made up of happy little things, they are a whole lot easier to attain. In fact, all you really have to do is enjoy your moments.
Perfect happy things may include:
1. Make some cold brew coffee.
This recipe will change your life. Seriously. Grab some giant Tupperware, make a space in the fridge and get ready for a continuous source of smiles. When you have quick, cold, easy coffee on hand, everything is better.
2. Wear something you love.
Maybe you have a favorite pair of pants. Maybe there's a color you love. Maybe it's a goofy sweatshirt that makes you smile. For me, if I put on daisy earrings, a grey or navy shirt, my favorite sandals or my DIYed TOMS, it's an instant pick-me-up. Whatever your item is, let it be an easy source of enjoyment throughout your day.
3. Color code something.
It could be your bookshelf. It could be your closet. It could just be your pens and pencils. That perfect rainbow, wherever it is, is going to make you smile more than once. Trust the girl with a color coded closet and bookshelf - it works.
4. Enjoy the weather.
Is it warm outside? Drive with the windows down. Is it chilly? Let that brisk air wake you up and make you feel alive. It makes the day so much better if you appreciate whatever season you're in. Personally, I have a ridiculous love for misty, grey fall days.
5. Sing.
Sing in the shower, sing at the stoplight, sing your sentences if you feel like it. Singing can almost always lift your spirits, even if your voice is far from angelic.
6. Dance at the stoplight.
Is it ridiculous? Yes. But is it ridiculously fun? Also yes.
7. Try something new.
It could be new food. It could be a new hairstyle. It could be self-tanning lotion or a new running workout. Make it interesting and make it fun!
8. Wake up earlier.
I'm not a morning person at all. One thing I have noticed, though, is that the extra 30 minutes to an hour gives me time to make a smoothie, pour some cold brew coffee, talk to my little brothers and sisters and even visit with my chickens before I leave for work. It makes a difference! (By the way, if you have the same waking-up problem that I do, this app has been a lifesaver)
Are little things like these going to make a huge difference in your life? Not necessarily. But letting little things make you happier than usual can make your daily life a little brighter and better. Give it a try!
