1. Step outside of your comfort zone.
In life it’s very easy to get into a continuous schedule and to get comfortable with the way you’re living. Every now and then, it is very important to step out of that zone and do something new that you may not be so comfortable doing. This allows you to realize that you may be capable of more than you thought you were.
2. Get rid of the negative people in your life.
This could be a friend, a person you are interested in, etc. Anyone who gives you any emotion that isn’t beneficial to you, should not have the honor of having a place in your life.
3. Do an act of kindness at least once a day.
You could compliment someone, hold the door for someone, or do any other simple or large task for another person. Making someone happy ends up making yourself happy in the long run.
4. Stop criticizing yourself.
Everyone is born with quirks and flaws, that’s just life. You need to accept that no one is perfect and accept these qualities that make you who you are.
5. Find an outlet to get rid of your stressful/negative thoughts.
Whether this be exercise, yoga/meditating, reading, etc. you must find a way to channel all of your negative thoughts away from you and allow room for happiness.
6. Treat yourself.
This may be treating yourself to a cup of coffee, indulging in your favorite junk food/treat, or going on a shopping spree. It’s always a nice change to reward yourself for being you and doing something that makes you happy.
7. Set time aside for alone time.
Being surrounded by your friends and others is a great thing but for your mental health, you should take some time to yourself to clear your mind. This may sound hippy but “channeling your inner self” is actually an amazing thing that can lead you down the road of discovering who you are.
8. Remember that things always get better.
As my favorite quote and tattoo says, “And in time, this too shall pass.” No bad days last forever, so learn to pick yourself up, smile, stay positive, and let those great days overcome those shitty days that happen every once in a while because as they say, you can't have a rainbow without a little rain.
