Wild species are fighting for their lives due to their ecosystems evolving at a rapid pace. Climate change and global warming are causing dramatic changes in ecosystems leaving wild species no way to defend themselves. The average rate for temperatures and air pollution is fluctuating to extreme measures. Species had to slowly adapt and evolve to live in these different conditions, but the time has come where the constant rate of change is too fast for animals to adapt in time.
It is no doubt that humans are partially responsible for ecosystems to change dramatically. And it's heartbreaking and concerning that animals don't know what to do.
If you care about the suffrage of species like polar bears, pigs, cows and even bees then take note of how our ozone layer and lands are being destroyed by our own doing. Here are eight facts about climate change and global warming.
1. Factory Farming
According to the Compassion in World Farming, farming is one of the major causes of climate change due to the vast amount of greenhouse gasses they release. Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide are produced during animal waste and fertilizer use. Humans need to cut down on greenhouse-gas emissions in developed countries by 80 percent by 2050 in order to stay below an average temperature rise of over 2 degrees Celsius.
2. Energy
Factory farming requires an astonishing amount of energy to rear the animals from skin and to grow the food they eat. Basically, they use over 70 percent of the energy to feed the animals just for slaughter.
3. Higher Temperatures
Climate change is projected to increase at a faster rate leading to heart-wrenching effects.Temperatures are continuing to rise causing regions that are low on water to use extra energy to rear animals and grow crops.
4. Plant Growth
The Convention on Biological Diversity says climate change can affect the growth of plants by the spread of pests and diseases, the heat, and wind causing soil erosion.
5. Destruction of Natural Habitats
One-third of the world's croplands are used to feed animals before slaughter. There is already not enough space for all these animals to feed that we are using land in parts of Latin American and sub-Saharan Africa. Parts of these areas are tropical forests.
6. Healthy Ecosystems Are Worth $33 Trillion Dollars Every Year
Humans need sufficient food, water and air to survive. These are all provided by our ecosystems and that makes them extremely valuable.
7. Raw Waste
According to the US Government Accountability Office, "Some large farms can produce more raw waste than the human population of a large US city." That's gross!
8. Global Warming
We all know the Arctic is being affected the most by global warming. By 2040 or maybe earlier, the Arctic is projected to have no ice during the summer.
The end to climate change and global warming is nowhere in sight. But we have the power to change the way we utilize energy and land.
