We all buy groceries, we pin recipes and we tell ourselves that we are going to cook our own meals, yet we throw out tons of rotting produce. Why? Because we are students, and irresponsible, and there is this fabulous application called Favor. The ever-growing, Austin-based service app has become a university favorite. But no matter how much you love your Honey Butter Chicken Buscuits, there is only so much Whataburger, Chick-fil-A or McDonald's a person can eat. After a while, our favorite Favor spots can get old. So when your dinner plans fail, and you need a tasty meal, here's a quick list of some delicious delivery options.
1.) Thundercloud Subs
3200 Guadalupe Street
This is a local favorite and a break from the ordinary. Every now and again a typical cheeseburger is just not what you're in the mood for. At Thundercloud, you can expect a large variety of sub sandwhiches, all that can come paired with the ever-famous thunder sauce.
2.) Thai, How Are You?
2100 Guadalupe Street
Located on the Drag, you've probably seen it before. If you haven't stopped in though, you're definitely missing out. It's highly recommended, but the only sign you really need for this place is the amazing smell that radiates out to people as they walk by. Thai How Are You has a wide range of Thai food and Sushi. My favorite is the sesame chicken stir-fry.
3.) Cafe Express
3418 North Lamar Blvd.
This place has just about everything, from soups and salads to grilled half-chicken. A wide range of tasty options that are off the beaten fast food path can be found here. However, you will also find that Cafe Express does some pretty delicious burgers. It offers all kinds of dinners and sides, and I would be crazy if I didn't recommend its garlic mashed potatoes!
4.) 24 Diner
600 North Lamar Blvd.
This is not your typical, greasy spoon diner. This place has much more to offer than just its bacon and eggs. From a goat cheese Frittata to sweet potato hash, 24 Diner has great, unique dishes, paired with the diner classics, for all meals of the day. The reuben sandwich is killer, and if you haven't had a grilled cheese on sourdough with roasted tomato, I highly suggest you try it!
5.) La Mancha
2203 Hancock Drive
If you're in the mood for Mexican but don't feel like rocking your food baby in public, order yourself some La Mancha. While Austin is crawling with delicious Tex-Mex, this place is a personal favorite. Its menu contains all of your normal culprits, fjitas, quesadillas and so on, but also has a few things that you won't find at any other Tex-Mex restaurants, like chorizo-stuffed jalapeños and camerones al diablo; i.e. shrimp stuffed with cheese and jalapeños wrapped in bacon. My La Mancha order consists of sour cream enchiladas and a bowl of queso.
6.) Dirty Martin's Place
2808 Guadalupe St.
Every now and again we all get that craving, for a good old-fashioned greasy cheeseburger. Dirty's has been a staple on campus for many years, and hopefully will be around for many more to come. Dirty's many burger options, paired with fresh cut fries will surely satisfy your cheesy cravings. Not to be forgotten, Dirty's wings are highly recommended and make for a tasty choice for a night in.
7.) Chili's
4420 North Lamar Blvd.
What? I'm sure you're all confused as to why Chili's made the list. For one thing, it's a personal favorite. And I've got to ask: How can you not like it? It might not ever end up on the Food Network, but have you ever eaten anything there that wasn't downright amazing? It's the epitome of American cuisine. You've got everything from burgers, to Italian, to Mexican, to Cajun! Bottom line: On a night when you can't decide what you want, this would be the place to order from.
8.) Taco Joint
2807 San Jacinto Blvd.
If you haven't had this North Campus-area treasure, I'm afraid you've missed out. This is the home of my favorite tacos both morning and night. While this gem will have to be a breakfast or lunch spot because it closes before dinner, don't let that deter you. It's long lines are a testament to its greatness, and you can have Favor wait in them for you.
Editor's note: Christen Ali Flowers is a current Favor employee.
