Being a commuter in college has a lot of perks, but it makes the end of the school year much less exciting. Many things that typical college students look forward to doing after the semester are just usual, everyday events for commuters.

1. Going home for the summer

While everyone is either so excited or dreading going home after finals, you’re just sitting there like… yeah, I’ve been at home this entire time.

2. Getting a summer job or internship

My summer job is just the same job that I’ve had this whole year. Nothing special or exciting, just the same paycheck except with warm weather and no class.

3. The day and time your finals are scheduled for

If you’re a commuter, you know people are taken over with hysteria because of the dates their finals fall on. But you don’t care if your only final falls on Friday afternoon since you’re only a quick 30-minute drive away, regardless.

4. Desperately using up your flex money or meal swipes at the dining hall

I’ll gladly use one of your meal swipes for free food since I don’t have a meal plan myself. The only exciting food related thing about school ending is not having to pack a lunch every day or live off a chicken nugget diet in between classes.

5. Spending quality time with your family

Summer is always a great time to have some uninterrupted family time at home, except I’ve been having that family time the entire semester. There’s nothing like doing homework with your little brother right outside the door imitating SpongeBob.

6. Getting ready for a nice summer of home-cooked meals

You get momma’s cooking all year long so it’s hard to relate to the campus dwellers who keep going on and on about eating their favorite meal when they get home. You can just send a text to your parents and ask them what’s for dinner every day.

7. Seeing your pets

Ok, seeing your pet is exciting every time it happens, but you haven’t gone months without cuddling your furry baby. You might still post a flood of cute pictures, though, just to blend in.

8. Hanging out with your friends in your fave hometown spots

Sure, seeing friends that go to other schools during the summer is fun, but you’re not getting excited to go to your favorite restaurant or ice cream shop because you went just last week on the way home from class.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
