Every once in awhile we find ourself in a rut, a "funk", a period of our life that when we're constantly upset but don't know why. We question if it's going to last forever and if there is anyway to feel "normal" again.
Here's several ways to pick yourself back up when you're feeling down and out.
Listen to music. Find a new music, maybe even a new genre of music, something that makes you feel extremely happy when you listen to it. Dig into your music archives and listen to albums and artist you haven't in months, maybe even years. Blast it in the car, in the shower, in your room and take headphones with you everywhere you go.
Distance yourself and even cut negative people, places and things out of your life. This one can be hard because sometimes you don't recognize this toxicity until you've already been poisoned. Just look for the cracks where your happiness and positivity is being drained and patch yourself back together. Don't let these things stop you from the joyful life you deserve.
Go outside. Spend a hour or two walking through your local nature trails, or the nearest park. Take a trip to a nearby lake or even just a stroll around your neighborhood. Just get out and really embrace our beautiful planet. It will help you clear your cluttered mind, and boost your mood immensely. Soak in the sun rays, take in how the breeze feels against your skin and most importantly never forget that feeling.
Make changes for yourself (if that's something that is bothering you). If you're not happy with your appearance look into ways you can love yourself again, or maybe for the first time. Whether it be, eating clean and going on a healthy living kick, working out to tone down or build up, putting weight on or even just buying yourself new makeup or some new clothes for your wardrobe. Whatever it may be, just know you're beautiful in any state that your body may be in.
Keep yourself busy. If you're in a slump and lacking all sorts of motivation, the last thing you want is to be busy, but it will also help you create a routine. It's hard to live a life that is always stress-free, and it's even more difficult to live a life constantly stressed, but a little stress is healthy and it will keep you on track.
As cliche as it sounds, SET GOALS. Short term goals that you know are possible to achieve is a great start and you can work your way up to creating long-term goals for yourself. Start small and then go big, it takes time but patience will be your best friend as long as you're dedicated.
Lastly, do the right thing even when no one is watching. Help others in the least selfless way. Do it because it's right, not just because it will make you feel better. Although it may make you feel good about yourself, never lose sight of the real reason you are doing it.
