College students know that the time between Thanksgiving and winter break is dreadful. Exams are quickly approaching, assignments and projects are due, and the days are shorter- how is anyone supposed to be motivated to do anything during this time? Luckily, I have found some things that can help the chronic procrastinator get into gear and finish the semester strong.
1. Make a List
Making a list of the remaining assignments, readings, projects, and papers can allow you to visualize exactly how much work you have left before exams. The beauty of creating this list is that it will either help you organize your thoughts, or stress you out to the point where you are motivated to do it.
2. Watch Nike or Gatorade Commercials
Nike, Gatorade, and other sports brands are known for inspiring athletes to continue working hard. However, these commercials also serve a purpose for the not-so-athletic college student. Listening to these commercials creates an energy that motivates you to get work done, even if you are studying for an exam rather than playing basketball.
3. Turn Your Phone Off
Technology is wonderful for several reasons, but it can actually hinder you when it comes to studying for exams. Don't let Twitter ruin your Chemistry grade!
4. Study with Friends
Contrary to popular belief, studying with friends can actually be a good thing. You can hold each other accountable, quiz each other on difficult topics, and combine notes to create the ultimate study guide.
5. CLEAN
It seems that around exam time students would rather do anything than study. I am guilty of deciding that my entire apartment needs to be cleaned the night before an exam. Clean ahead of time so you have a clear space to work in and no excuses!
6. Listen to Christmas Music
Nothing motivates you more than the image of spending the holidays with your family and friends. Listen to some holiday tunes to remind you of what you're working towards. Nothing ruins a family dinner more than a failing grade.
7. Call Your #1 Fan
A good pep talk is sometimes all it takes to help you focus. When I feel that my mind is fried, I call my mom for some motivation.
