7 Times Your Mom Was Right

Let’s face it: moms are always right. We think we can outsmart them, but they know it all. Along with being geniuses, these powerful women wear many hats. They are our chauffeurs, our chefs, our nurses and overall, our life coaches. However, we sometimes make the mistake of not listening to these wise women. Here are seven times our moms were right:

It was too cold for just a t-shirt.

The amount of times our moms have hounded about dressing warmer is endless. “Put on a coat! Don’t forget your gloves! Do you need a hat?” It isn’t until you leave the house that you realize she was right and you really did need that jacket.

Sunscreen was definitely necessary.

We all want that summer glow. Look good, feel good, right? However, you’ve come to realize that after a few hours in the hot sun, your skin beings to resemble a tomato. Ever since you were little, it was your mother that chased you around with the SPF 70 before you saw daylight. As much as we like to think we know better, our moms are right- sunblock is a must. We’ve all learned this lesson the hard way at least once or twice.

The clearance section is the Holy Grail.

Sure, we’re all attracted to the flashy displays in the front of the store. This is where all of the new products are showcased. But, once you realize you’ve spent way more than you should have on very few items, your mother’s voice is ringing in your head: “Go to the clearance section! That’s where they hide all the deals!”

There are bigger problems in the world.

How many times have you made a fuss over something so small? Perhaps the washer machine shrunk your favorite shirt. Or, maybe, your dog chewed up your new pair of headphones. The last thing you wanted to hear in that moment of rage was your mom telling you that bigger problems existed in this world. But, she’s right- these problems are easily fixed and we shouldn’t take what we have for granted. Someone in the world is happier with less than what you have.

You should have ended that relationship sooner.

No matter how many times your mom will try and steer you in the right direction, it is ultimately up to you how your love life is run. She will give you far better advice than any friend could come up with. You just never took any of it into consideration. I mean, after all, she just doesn’t get it. However, once the relationship ends in heartbreak, you realize every word of advice your mother said was true.

You do not need to grow up so fast.

Life can be stressful and, I don’t know about you, but I certainly wish I could just be a little kid again. I mean, what ever happened to recess and naptime? Our moms are constant reminders that growing up is hard, but it doesn’t have to be done so quickly. Time is precious and becoming an adult doesn’t have to happen so soon.

You can always trust your mom no matter what.

She’s the woman who would do absolutely anything for you. No matter what mistakes you make, her forgiving heart will always be there for you. She will listen to you and guide you to make the best choice. Even when you’re in those sticky situations, you can always fall back on your mom. After all, mother knows best.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
