I'm sure you are familiar with the phrase "don't settle." I mean, who isn't?
It's most common appearance? Dating advice. Yet, that's not the only place you shouldn't settle. In fact, there are many places in your life that you might be settling when you shouldn't be.
1. Relationships.
I know, this is the most common one, which is why I put it first. It's a given. Don't settle in your relationships. If you are trying to find someone to share your time with, why would you go for the person who is just okay? You should be going for the person who you are madly in love with, who supports you in all you do, who is excited for your achievements and loves time spent with you. You should also be the same for them.
2. Friendships.
I think it should be obvious that you should never settle when it comes to your close group of friends. There are billions of people on earth; why would you settle when it comes to those who are supposed to be your closest confidants? If you aren't happy in a friendship, you should leave it. There is no rule saying you have to be stuck in any kind of relationship.
3. Career.
You should go after the career you want—not what others think you should do, not what will make you the most money, not what society deems respectable. Do whatever it is you want to do. Remember, though, that in order to get there, you may have to work through some other jobs. Trying to get that dream job doesn't mean not working anywhere else. You have to work to achieve your dreams; don't trap yourself somewhere you hate.
4. Morals.
We all have our own set of morals. They are what guide us in our lives, so never, ever, ever, settle your morals. No one on earth is worth you losing a part of yourself. If you don't drink, then don't drink. If you have strong morals, that is good. Your morals make you yourself, and that is something you should never settle on.
5. Religion.
Religion is a touchy subject, but here is my thought on it. Religion is based on having faith in something, and losing your faith is one of the most devastating things that can happen to you. So, never settle on religion. Don't let people diminish your faith, but also, don't diminish others' faiths. We are all allowed to believe whatever we want, so don't let toxic people ruin that for you.
6. Style.
Dress however the eff you want. I get sick and tired of people thinking others are "weird" or "out of touch" because of what they choose to wear. Style is an outer representative of yourself. Don't let people play dress up with you. Wear what makes you feel most confident and happy.
7. Personality.
Don't change your personality to impress people. They aren't worth it if they don't like you how you are. I actually told someone I couldn't be friends with them anymore because they said I needed to "act less weird in public." I was 12. I still don't regret that moment. If you aren't living at 100 percent you, then you won't attract people who like 100 percent you. So, never settle on yourself.
