"You know, it's kind of hard to tell an independent woman what to do." —Betty Ford
When you date a woman who is used to doing everything for herself, dating her can be a little bit of a challenge. We can come across as intimidating and scary, but we're not all women who have to have control. Here's some things to keep in mind if you find yourself dating an independent woman.
1. She has her own life.
Chances are, she's a busy girl. She has her own schedule with her own social life and her own friends. Don't expect her to drop everything she's doing so that you can hang out with her without making plans. She might like you, but you're not the center of her universe.
2. Let her order her coffee/food/ice cream, etc.
I guess this is just a me thing, but PLEASE don't order my food. Especially if it's a first date. You don't know how I like my steak, or that I like my white chocolate mocha with only two pumps of white chocolate. This isn't a "I am a woman, and I don't need a man to do anything for me" gripe. It's a "I'm very particular about what I eat, so let me do it my way."
3. Leave the games for someone else.
If the woman you're dating is anything like me, she doesn't have time for games. She knows how she feels about you, and she has probably made it clear. It’s not fair to keep a girl dangling just because you can’t man up and tell her how you feel. If you can't make up your mind, she'll find someone who can.
4. She's straightforward.
If she wants Thai food, she'll tell you that's what she wants when you ask her. If she doesn't like the shirt you're wearing, she'll tell you as soon as you walk in the door. She'll say exactly what's on her mind, because that's how she is with everything else.
5. Two words: Real. Date.
Please for the love of God, do NOT ask us to "Netflix and chill" or any other crap like that. We don't want to do our hair, put on real clothes, put on make-up and shave our legs to watch "Terminator" on your nasty couch. Take us out and get to know us.
6. She doesn't NEED anything from you.
If she wants those new boots she's been telling you about, she'll probably end up buying them by the end of the day. She makes her own money so that she can do what she wants with it. She's with you because she enjoys being around you, not for your money.
7. Trust us.
We're used to it being all about us. We're not used to having to check in with anyone about anything. Trust us enough to go out with our girlfriends without texting us every three minutes asking if guys are with us.
I know we can be difficult and hard to love sometimes, but I promise we're worth it.
