The only thing predictable about early spring weather is that it's unpredictable. Little sayings such as: March goes in like a lion and out like a lamb or April showers bring May Flowers are simple guidelines when it comes to springtime in Michigan. It's an exciting time. The birds are coming back, bears are waking up for hibernation, flowers are blooming, and if you're lucky, you're birthday is coming up.
Being born in spring means that you need to be prepared for the next apocalypse. Okay, maybe not that drastic, but you do need be prepared for any type of weather. Having a birthday in spring is great, but there are a few things that only people with early spring birthdays have to deal with.
1. It could fall before Easter
For all of you that have experienced this, it means that whatever you gave up for lent will not be enjoyed on your birthday. Hope you didn't give up birthday cake.
2. It could be on Easter.
It could be on any holy day really. Good Friday. Easter. Either way, it's hard to celebrate your birthday when people are celebrating the fact that Jesus rose from the dead. Also, any birthday presents you receive will most likely have a bunny on it. Look on the bright side, Lent's over. You can finally eat the giant chocolate bunny.
3. It could be snowing.
As every seasoned (pun intended) Michigander knows, just because it's been perfect weather for a month, doesn't mean it won't snow again. For all you know, your birthday present good be a needed pair of gloves.
4. It could be sunny and 75.
On the other hand, your birthday could be spent at the beach.
5. It could be in the middle of a torrential rain storm.
Or...you might find yourself asking your mom for a new umbrella as a birthday gift. This is also tornado season, so if you're still in school, expect to practice a few tornado drills.
6. You could have a cold or it could simply be allergies.
Honestly, I don't know what's worse. At least with a cold, it only last for a few days, maybe a week (unless you live in the dorms in which case you're screwed). With allergies, it could last all spring. Either way your nose is stuffy and you can't pronounce certain words without people making fun of you.
7. Your birthday could fall in that famous spring cleaning week.
Happy Birthday. You need to organize your closet, dust off the blinds, clean the windows, shake out the carpet, etc.
Basically, you don't know what to expect. Your birthday lands in an unpredictable season of rain, snow, sun, hail, and more. At least you take comfort in the fact that spring time birthdays are all in this together. And if it's your birthday that's coming up soon...Happy Birthday!
