I never have and never will fully understand how some girls can say that they "don’t care for" or "aren’t close with" their older brothers (or siblings, for that matter). I could never imagine either of those statements leaving my mouth. I guess for my brother and I it could be the 6-year age difference, or even the way we were raised. Either way, he is the blessing in disguise I can’t imagine my life without. So, with that being said, here are 7 things you know to be true if you’re a girl that grew up with an older brother.

1.He is going to be the first man to ever love you unconditionally.

Other than your father, of course, your older brother will be the first man to ever adore you the way you long for in your later years of life. He is going to see you at your worst and your best, in a way that no one else will. He is also going to love you no matter how many time you get him in trouble with mom and dad and even if its not his fault, he still takes the heat for you. Also, no matter what you look like, he will think you’re beautiful, inside and out. He may give you a hard time, but we all know its because he loves you endlessly.

2. You’re absolutely TERRIFIED to bring a boy home and when you do, you’re nervous sweating the entire time.

Because lets be honest here, absolutely NO ONE’S opinion matters to you as much as your brother’s does. If big bro doesn’t like him, neither do you. That’s just how it works. You also learn to take his opinions close to heart, because he never wants to hurt your feelings… he just has your best interest in mind and will make sure you have the best of the very best.

3. Your first crush was probably on his high-school friends.

Ladies we are all guilty. We LOVED when the basketball team would come over and hang out. Why? Because your brother never minded that you hung out with them. Because you’re his best friend, which means you’re practically apart of the friend group already. Plus, you already had your top 3 husbands picked out by the age of 12.

4. Your summer vacation diet consisted of pizza, easy mac, and tortilla chips with melted cheese on top.

Because the real reason your parents had a son 6 years older than their daughter is so they would have a full-time babysitter no matter what. Sadly, your high school aged brother had no idea how to make anything other than frozen pizza, easy mac, and tortilla chips (with cheese melted on top, of course).

5. Their girlfriend/wife is like a best friend and sister all in one.

I grew up ALWAYS wanting a big sister. But, as I grew older and my brother got married, I realized his wife was the sister and best friend I never had. You now have someone to pick on your brother with you. You finally have endless boy advice, makeup tips, and fashion inspiration right in front of you. Plus, she's pretty cool to begin with.

6.You have the best example of “Jesus with skin on” right in front of you.

My brother’s heart is absolutely breathtaking and it inspires me to be the best woman in Christ that I could possibly be. He’s a constant reminder of God’s unending grace and love and displays it more flawlessly than I have ever witnessed.

7. You have your #1 ride or die your entire life.

No matter what life throws your way, you know you always have someone right next, in your corner, to you to catch you when you fall. And that’s so comforting.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
