Women and men constantly feel pressure of the mainstream media to change how they look to fit into impossible beauty standards. It can be discouraging to people of all ages, especially girls in college. College is a time where girls are trying to find themselves and figure out where they fit in in the world.

This is why loving yourself important and slowly becoming an new trend. It teaches girl to be body positive and love their skin your in, no matter what the main stream media depicts as “beautiful.” Its hard to forget that the girl in the magazine is not even who she really is. Being centered also means doing what makes you happy without caring what anyone else thinks. This will not always be easy, because we are all scared of being judged or made fun of for something that makes us different.

1. Become Body Positive

Teaching girls to be body positive and love their skin your in is very important today, no matter what the main stream media depicts as “beautiful.” Its hard to forget that the girl in the magazine is not even who she really is. Try reminding yourself this next time you look in the mirror and remember that everyone is beautiful in his or her own way and we have to learn to embrace our flaws!

2. Learn A New Skill

Nothing is more exciting than showing off a talent or skill that you have worked hard to master. Whether it is singing, dancing, writing or painting; everyone can benefit from learning to be creative. Even if you’ve felt as though you do not have a talent, you can still try something new. Pick up a paintbrush and just see where the canvas takes you, or buy a used instrument and learn some new notes every week; some people have hidden talents they didn’t even know was inside.

3. Push To Be Healthier

A healthy body leads to a healthy mind and life style. Push yourself to try new fruits and vegetables or new recipes that involve something you’ve never cooked with before. Just because you didn’t like brussel sprouts when you were 5, doesn’t mean you wont like them now. Tastes buds are always evolving and changing. Trying new foods is always exciting; your taste buds might even thank you later. Along with health in the kitchen comes physical health. Start with beginner yoga or go for a long walk but aim to become a runner; set goals. Not only does physical activity help your body, it helps your mental health become strong as well.


4. Find Your Niche

It is no secret that sometimes, girls can be nasty behind your back. Not many girls act this way, but it only takes one mean experience to lose trust in a friendship. Finding friends that encourage you to the best that you can be will definitely help any girls’ self-esteem. A group of friends that are always there for you and have your back during the hard times will give you that extra confidence when you are feeling down. Making friends is not always easy and require a lot of trial and error but eventually you will find the people that you can just be yourself around.

5. Be A Little Self-Centered

There is nothing wrong with wearing an outfit that gives you confidence and taking 10 selfies in the mirror before going out. Wear as much or as little make-up as you want; don’t be afraid to change your appearance. Remind yourself that you are awesome and deserve only the best. With that, you can learn to love yourself and hopefully be a better person in the making.

6. Treat Yourself

Treating yourself doesn’t always have to mean spending a lot of money. There are plenty of ways to treat yourself without buying anything at all. It can be something as simple as painting your nails a new color. Or, you can finally buy yourself something expensive you have wanted for a while. No matter what it is, as long as you feel good after, it doesn’t matter.

7. Set Goals

Anyone can set a goal, but only determined people can reach them. Aim to get all A’s this semester, or to run your first 5k. Setting and reaching goals can really help with self-esteem and give you a feeling of accomplishment. Make it something small at first and see how far you push your limits. Eventually, you will be doing something you never thought you could do! It is truly an amazing feeling to reach any goal.
