I've struggled a lot the past few months, but I've also met some incredible people that have changed my life every single day. To others, what they may be doing is so simple that it is insignificant, but from my point of view, it means a lot. If you want to show others that you care and that you make a difference in their life, I've listed out a few things that I know can do wonders to improve the lives of others around you. Strangers, friends, dogs, cats, animals, etc.
1. Do something for yourself.
Wait, but you just said that this is for helping others? Of course, but sometimes the best way to help others around you is by helping yourself first. We often forget how crucial it is to put ourselves first from time to time. Do yourself a small favor and drink at least 2L of water today. You will thank me and yourself later for doing this. You'll feel better and your skin be literally glowing.
2. Give your friend a hug when you see them.
I know some people aren't very big into hugging, but I also do know that sometimes a hug can fix any of the day's problems. I thrive on hugs and would die without one every day (Sorry, I'm extra). Hugs do relieve a lot of stress, so I highly suggest getting a hug. You never know who could use one that day.
3. Smile at someone, anyone.
To be honest, when someone smiles at me, it reminds me to be happy and I end up smiling back. So then I start to smile at people, then I imagine they start smiling at others on their way. Be like this dog, smile!
4. Call someone you love.
I felt like another dog picture would help get this point across. In this day and age, texting is usually the go-to, but I know that hearing my moms voice on the other side of the phone helps me out every now and then. I'm sure it makes her happy too, plus if you're taking the time to call someone when you're afraid to talk on the phone, it just shows that you care more.
5. Make a new friend.
Have you recently met someone that you seem to like but would love to get to know more? Then reach out to them. You don't know what it could do for them. It might improve their lives drastically and could even take them somewhere they never thought they could go.
6. Have a weekly get together with friends.
In college, it is much easier to have a weekly get together with friends because schedules won't be as crazy. Some friends will actually really appreciate it this, giving them something to look forward to in life's craziest moments.
7. Compliment a stranger and/or a friend every day.
Making someone feel spectacular is often rewarding not just for them but for you. You're adding just a little bit more happiness into the world. Maybe that girl woke up extra early to work on her make-up or hair. Maybe that guy bought new pants Maybe your professor worked super hard on their presentation. Just compliment them in some way, shape, or form.
These are just a few things that you can do, but I know that they can go a long way. It really can, I'm serious. A few months ago, I didn't think that I was going to make it, but someone stumbled into my life and did these things for me and I realized that everything is going to be okay. Do something nice today.
