Here's to the good days (aka stress free days)!
1. Friday night football was a way of life.
No matter what your "clique" was, we all showed up for Friday night football games. Somehow, we all desired the essence of "going out" and cheering on the Bucs.
2. The rivalry between Kent Island and Queen Anne's was alive and better than ever.
If you went a week without commenting on how much better KI was then QA, you probably didn't talk to many people in school. Whether it was the academic aspect or the sport rivalries, nothing felt better than succeeding over QA.
3. The annex was the worst year of your life.
Spending your first year of high school separated from the rest of KI was exhausting and uncomfortable. When you realized there was one window on each end of the hall, it got a little claustrophobic. There also was no avoiding anyone in that small space.
4. Senior Week was the most hyped part of high school.
Even though it happened after graduation, you still had to excite yourself to the adventures of spending some odd number of days at the beach with your best friends.
5. Homecoming was the thing to do.
Going to homecoming was a rite of passage for KI. It was one of the only dances, and the public responses might have been the most exciting part of homecoming.
6. The parking lot was your worst nightmare.
As if finding a spot five minutes before first bell wasn't rough enough, you had to fight to keep your bumper intact as well.
7. You had a teacher whom graduated from KI or a teacher your friend's parent's had when they went to KI.
Legacy isn't just a rumor around KI, it's a real occurrence. I had many friends tell me their parents had such and such teacher, and teachers who graduated what really is only a few years before I did.
If all else fails, we have the constant reminder that home is forever, and that many people from KI return to complete the cycle of a generation of KI students.
For a public school, it's not bad. I'd even go so far to say it's great.
