Of course there are those whom believe that cannabis, popularly known as marijuana, should maintain its status of being illegal - while there are those whom believe it should be legalized. According to my own research, it should be legalized. And for many other purposes than to be used recreationally, as the following research will state.
1. According to MedicalDaily.com there have been researchers from the American Academy of Neurology that in forms of pills or sprays, marijuana can reduce stiffness and muscle spasms for those whom suffer from multiple sclerosis.
2. In that same article, there have been studies proving that that through the use of cannabis, HIV patients can use the substance to reduce the pain caused by damaged nerves.
3. Not only does cannabis assist with HIV patients, it also helps reduce symptoms of patients suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder; controlling seizures in epilepsy; and quite effective in treating schizophrenia.
To be more specific, there are two receptors that are derived from cannabis - THC and CBD. While THC causes euphoria, relaxation, anxiety and short term memory impairment; this cannabinoid causes pyschoactivity while CBD calms these symptoms. The CBD cannabinoid is most commonly used for treatments due to its lack of psychoactivity.
4. Marijuana causes an increased appetite in patients undergoing chemotherapy, also known as the "munchies."
5. And for those college kids, Medical marijuana (according to GreenRushDaily.com) has been shown to protect one's liver from binge alcohol-induced steatosis. On a side note, it also has been proven to reduce the side effects associated with hangovers.
6. It can also reduce the blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes.
7. Not only does cannabis assist with the diseases/symptoms mentioned above, it also treats Alzheimer's disease; inflammation and pain; and substance use disorders.
