7 Reasons Why Being A Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Is The Best

I’ve grown up wearing black and gold, I’m surprised I wasn’t brought home wrapped in a terrible towel. I was 3 years old standing on the piano hooting and hollering for the Steelers to “get it together” and to “move the ball.” This was something that was instilled in me at a young age.

My dad, my mom and my grandfather were all Pittsburgh fans. My dad was born and raised in Pittsburgh before he got stationed in Washington state. Every year, we count down the days to Steelers season like it’s Christmas.

1. The Rooney Family.

There’s something about the quality that the Rooney family has brought to the team, and to the quality of football in Pittsburgh, that causes people to fall in love. The Rooney family has always owned the steelers since they were founded in 1933. The steelers are one of the oldest teams (the 8th oldest to be exact)

2. The name “The Steelers.”

The Steelers are named after the very hard working Steel workers that came out of the big “steel city” To honor them, the Rooney family decided to name the team after their hard work in order to instill those ethics into the players.

3. The 6 rings!

1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 2005, 2008 were all big years in Pittsburgh. The steelers were known as the power house team in the 70s. They were the first team to win 4 super bowls in 6 years. One of those years that they didn’t win the super bowl, they made it to the AFC championship and were defeated.

4. The Dance moves.

Between Antonio brown and Hines ward, there’s a lot of dancing going on. Hines ward went on after retiring from the Steelers franchise to compete in Dancing with the stars, to win it all. Antonio brown? Just loves to dance, and can often be seen on the field with a big smile on their face.

5. The community outreach.

The Steelers as an organization are involved in 35+ volunteer programs ranging from The American heart association to Children's hospital of Pittsburgh, to their own program called Shop with a steeler. On and off the field, the players are involved with their community, giving their time and money to help the community.

6. The Mascot.

Steely McBeam, He’s just cool. I like him.

7. The family aspect.

The Steelers organization has held that Football is a family sport. This has caused them to never have Cheerleaders as they believe it takes away from the game. My family has loved Pittsburgh football before I was even born. My brother had his first Legal drink at a Pittsburgh Steelers game. My parents spend their Sundays together watching football, no matter what. I have a steelers tattoo. The organization is dedicated to their fans, and we are dedicated to them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
