This week, I got the opportunity to stay in the peaceful town of Chincoteague, Virginia. It is a peaceful town but the most important thing to note is that I was about 5 minutes away from the beach.
I have been to the beach many times throughout my life and have always loved it. As a matter of fact, I don't really trust people who prefer mountains over water. I love the ocean and as I watched a family play soccer and giggle in the sand, I realized that I will not raise kids in the midwest.
It was a great place to grow up, but for many reasons, I will live on a beach one day with my family.
1. The smell
Nothing compares to the smell of an ocean. Something about the way the sand, saltwater and palm trees blow in the wind creates a pleasant smell that I wish i could put in a candle.
2. The sounds
I love nothing more than the sound of waves lapping on the shore. Also as crazy as it sounds, even listening to the people talk is nice because they sound happier all because they are on a beach. The laughter seems louder and worries melt away.
3. Seashells
Anyone who knows me knows that I love seashells. I don't know why but I love collecting them. I know if I lived near an ocean, I could find some beautiful shells and collect them.
4. Social life
Living on a beach seems more social than the Midwest. You would meet people on the sand or even in the water while boating or fishing.
5. Exercise
What better exercise than swimming or running in the sand? The answer is there is none.
6. Tan skin
This one speaks for itself. As long as you are sure to put on your sunscreen, the tan skin is enough to make anyone feel more confident.
7. Happiness
I know I can speak for myself that whenever I am near a body of water, especially the ocean, and combine all these reasons, I am a much happier me and think more clearly than I ever could. For this reason, I am counting down the days until I can finally make a house near a beach my permanent home.
