Sometimes we can't help who we love. Whether it’s a significant other or your best friend, some people are toxic. Your friends all tell you that you’re crazy for letting this person walk all over you. They constantly ask why you don’t just get yourself out of the relationship, and your answer is always the same: you love them. Part of you may not even know why. You simply feel as though you need them in your life, or you don’t even know how to get away. In those cases, here are seven reasons why you should get the hell out of that relationship.
1. It is doing so much more harm than good.
The harm this person’s words and actions are causing you do nothing but hurt you. There is no good coming out from this. You are not getting stronger, you are getting weaker. Those “good” moments you have are surrounded by abuse. They are controlling you, and you are letting them.
2. No, they will never change.
Stop telling yourself that. No, they are not “getting better” or “changing,” they are exactly the same as they were before, except now they're even more manipulative. That's ALL they are.
3. You will no longer feel that weight on your shoulders.
That anxiety, the utter worrying and watching what you say and do, will disappear. You don't owe anybody anything--especially them.
4. You deserve better.
Everyone is telling you that you do, too. Listen to them.
5. They are not as important as you’ve convinced yourself they are.
You will find someone better. Honestly, anyone is better than them. They are not “your world.” You are your own world. Stop making some asshole mean more than yourself.
6. They don’t care about you.
No matter how harsh that is, it’s true. They hurt you willingly. They put their selfishness before you. Don't give them any more of yourself.
7. No, you are not broken.
Find your legs and get up. You’ll thank yourself in a few months. You are not a lost cause, you're just a little bruised. That will fade.
Stop giving the wrong people pieces of yourself. You are handing them the matches, and you are setting your own self on fire. Do not let someone get so comfortable with disrespecting you. You are not a doll they can pick up and play with, then toss away whenever it's most convenient. Run. You deserve so much more than this.
