You may fight, steal each other’s clothes, and get irritated with each other constantly, but at the end of the day your siblings are some of your best friends. You share some of the best memories with the ones you have never been without. Whether you have just one or 10 siblings, here are seven things everyone with a sibling should be grateful for.
1. Having someone else to blame.
We’ve all blamed a sibling for a chore not being done even though it was definitely our job to do it. Forgot to wash the dishes on the way out of the house? Whoops, sorry wasn’t my turn! Having siblings gets you off the hook for things you could never get out of if you were an only child.
2. Basically a free Uber driver.
No matter if you are the oldest, middle, or youngest child in the family everyone does their fair share of picking up and dropping off their siblings. As the oldest you may spend countless hours dropping off your younger siblings at school, the movies, the mall, etc., but you’ll find yourself being repaid when they finally get their license, it’s been a late night, and you don’t feel like paying for a cab.
3. Jokes no one else will understand.
There’s some jokes between you and your siblings that even some of your best friends will not understand. When you’ve literally known each other your whole lives and been through so much together, you create endless amounts of memories that only relatable to each other.
4. Less attention on you.
When it comes to being questioned by your parents about stuff, the more siblings you have the better because the focus won’t always be on you. Failed a test? It’s OK because your little brother broke the window with his BB gun last week and they’re still fuming about that.
5. They help you to get away with stuff.
Easily one of the best reasons about having siblings is that they can help you to get away with stuff you couldn’t alone. Walking in the back door an hour past curfew and don’t want to wake anyone up? Ask them to unlock the basement door so you can sneak in unnoticed. Being an only child automatically makes it so much harder to break any sort of rule your parents have.
6. Extra clothes.
We’d be lying if we said that we’ve never worn our siblings clothes before. We’d also be lying if we said that sharing clothing has never started a fight before because it definitely does on the daily. Having a sibling is like having a whole other wardrobe to choose from. You automatically have more options when it comes to putting together an outfit, which is something no one can complain about.
7. More siblings means more fun.
Especially if you’re close in age, having siblings means having more friends. You’re close with people older and younger than you because you all hang out together. You know more people at school, have more connections, and more fun.
