Are you sad, stressed, nervous or otherwise unhappy? You may want to go find yourself some new friends—ones who are kind, loving, hilarious and adorable. And no, I am most certainly not talking about the friends of the human form. That's right, I'm talking about the ever-adorable Golden Retriever.
As the proud owner of two Goldens, I can say with confidence that my fur-babies often put the humans I know to shame. Here's how.
1. They don't complain.
No matter what unexpected circumstances Golden Retrievers find themselves in, they always seem to get through it with a smile. Even when Golden's get themselves into trouble—which is quite often—they always seem happy to be alive (even when they are stuck in the fence—again).
2. They're patient.
Golden Retrievers are amazing family dogs for a reason: they're incredibly patient. Small children and other animals can mess with a Golden all they want; the Golden is still just grateful for the attention.
3. They share.
Okay. So maybe they don't share all the time—believe me, if you try to take a piece of bacon from a Golden, there will be resistance. But in most cases, a Golden will share his most prized possession with you just to see you smile (even if his most prized possession is a big stash of dirty socks).
4. They're helpful.
Even though Golden's are incapable of helping us with a lot of human activities, they do their best to be of service to us. Every time I try to do my homework or write my articles, my Golden's (Winnie and Frankie) are always desperately trying to help me with my work. It's actually extremely unproductive, but how could you say no? They're just too dang adorable!
5. They don't judge.
Your Golden most certainly doesn't care if your hair is three days dirty and tied up in a messy bun. He doesn't care about that nasty pimple on your forehead. He doesn't even care that you've been wasting away in your room for six days while you re-watch Gossip Girl for the fourth time.
He could care less about the way you look, act or smell. He loves you anyway. That's more than I can say for a lot of humans!
6. They've somehow unlocked the key to happiness.
One of the defining factors in a Golden Retriever's superiority to humans is their innate understanding of happiness. No matter the circumstances, a Golden Retriever is grateful and happy to be alive.
If only we could ask our furry friends how to be so secure!
7. They love unconditionally.
A Golden Retriever will love you no matter what. Even if you forgot to feed him this morning or you came home late last night. He will always think you are the best human who's ever existed.
Without a doubt, Golden Retrievers are some of the best companions anyone could ask for. They're remarkably compassionate and ask for nothing in return. I think it's safe to say that we could all take a page from the book of these sweet blessings to humanity.
