There are an infinite number of words in the universe, and sometimes we underestimate their magnitude. Words have the power to inspire, or even to drive a person to get out of bed when they're feeling especially low. We use words to motivate our friends, whether they are ours, or quotes from others we find in our day to day life. So here are some words for your average weekday, to live by or to tell someone else:

1. " Failure is a bruise, not a tattoo." - Jon Sinclair

If you're anything like me, you might linger over your mistakes for too long. But there has never been any good in that; all you can do is learn from it without allowing it to define you.

2. "People generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for." - Harper Lee

This derives from Lee's beloved "To Kill A Mockingbird," but it still resonates out of context.

3. "If we wait until we're ready, we'll be waiting for the rest of our lives." - Lemony Snicket

A lot of the time, we put things off in fear of the unknown. But life doesn't start when you're ready, and the best you can do is take it as it comes.

4. "There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind." - C.S. Lewis

Personally, I have experienced rapid change in my life all at once, and it can be truly overwhelming. I still feel this change quite often, but what's comforting is to know that everything I'm looking for is right in front of me, not in the past.

5. "There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man, true nobility is being superior to your former self." - Ernest Hemingway

Even the best of people look to become better than those around them, but such advances are futile. What I've learned is that, the only person you should focus on being better than is who you were yesterday.

6. "I've been absolutely terrified every moment of my life, and I've never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do." - Georgia O'Keeffe

I have quickly learned that fear is capable of keeping you from doing all the things you want to do. But when you learn to get over those feelings, you'll gain from the experience regardless of if you failed or not.

7. "We do not need magic to transform the world. We carry all the power need inside ourselves already." - J.K. Rowling

I find it especially astounding how many beautiful things have been created and achieved by humans alone. What I've learned is that these things did not happen because of some superhuman powers, and that we are all capable of moving mountains, regardless of how small we might feel.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
