7 Music Midtown Survival Tips

Music Midtown is back and better than ever. This year’s collection of artists is unique and diverse and if you’re anything like me, you’ve been counting down the days since the lineup was announced in July. This will be my fourth straight year in attendance, and I’m here to share everything I can with you to help your experience be incredible.

1. Figure out transportation. If you have ever been to Atlanta, you know how horrendous traffic is. Now imagine that traffic with 75,000 people trying to get to the same place at the same time. Your best bet is, without a doubt, MARTA. Forget the bad reputation and think about this: A round trip fare for MARTA is only $5. The closest stations to Piedmont Park are the Arts Center Station and Midtown Station. Another great option is Uber, and Music Midtown is even offering $20 off your first ride with the code MusicMidtown2015.

2. Make a game plan. Download the Music Midtown App on your phone. Right now. Look at the schedules (for people who have been before, notice the additional fourth stage) and figure out who you want to see and how to deal with overlapping shows. Take a look at the map, get an idea for where things are prior to arriving, it will make your life a million times easier.

3. Designate a meeting spot. You will get separated from your friends. Sometimes on purpose, other times accidentally and cell service is terrible. You need a place both in and out of the festival grounds to meet. An intersection on 10th Street is a great place for after the concert ends, the road is closed, it is monitored by security and heavily trafficked by people walking so you feel safe.

4. EAT and stay hydrated. This is huge. Don’t be the person who misses their favorite artist because they didn’t eat all day and passed out. It will be hot and you’ll be doing a lot of walking and dancing, and you need to sustain your body. Make sure you bring cash, the ATMs charge roughly $4 per transaction. Bring a water bottle as well, an empty personal water bottle or a factory-sealed plastic bottle are both permitted through the gates and there are places all over the park to refill them.

5. Pack Lightly. Ladies, break out the fanny packs and leave your purse at home. You want to be hands free so you can sing and dance and backpacks are not permitted. All you need is cash, your ID, your tickets (or wristband), some gum, a portable charger (this will save your life), a few Advil, a small tube of sunscreen and chapstick. Don’t forget your water bottle and some sunglasses too! If it might rain, bring a ziplock bag to put your phone and cash in so it doesn’t get wet.

6. Comfort over fashion. You are going to walk. A lot. From MARTA to Piedmont Park and then all over Piedmont Park. And when you’re not walking, you’re standing. Shoes. Are. Key. Whether you’re a girl wanting to look boho- chic or a guy rocking Chubbies and some NBA jersey, you need to pick shoes that will support your feet for 12+ hours. It never fails that girls are standing near me complaining about their thin, Target sandals or even their wedges (why?) that are killing their feet. I say go the Chaco route (or something similar) even if they look a little silly with the rest of your outfit. Your feet and your entire body will be thanking you when you finally sit down at the end of the night.

7. Download Piedmont Now. Piedmont Healthcare has a phone application called "Piedmont Now." All you have to do is download it and show it to the Piedmont Healthcare workers wearing orange at the entrances and you will receive a Fast Lane wristband to skip the line to get in.

Follow these tips, be smart, don’t drink and drive and GET PUMPED because Music Midtown is less than a week away!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
