7 Mistakes You Have To Make

Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.

7 Mistakes You Have To Make
msecnd

In my short 21 years on this earth, I have learned that life is just one big trial and error. You are going to fall flat on your face, both literally and figuratively. You will never achieve perfection in this world. But what you can do is learn and grow and mess up again and again. All of these mistakes will turn into lessons and experiences that make us all better people. You will make mistakes. It is what you learn from them that will define you.

1. That one hair cut

You know exactly what I'm talking about. As soon as you read the title, that one hair cut, style or color you use to rock immediately popped into your head. I decided in 5th grade that I wanted to look just like my American Girl Doll "Kit" and that is how I learned that I in fact do not look good with a bowl cut. My hair is still recovering.

2. That one boy

You have to date the jerk in order to recognize what the real deal actually is. So you'll know when the good guy or girl comes along. It's just part of the process. You have to date someone who doesn't treat you right in order to realize that you deserve so much better. Plus they are typically super cute and exciting. Here for a good time, not for a long time.

3. That one trend

As much as you want to forget it, the photos will be there forever. Always reminding you of how far your sense of style has come since the days of gaucho pants, Capri Sun purses, ultra thin scarfs, Hollister tees, plaid Bermuda shorts and white camis under absolutely everything.

4. That one friend

It takes having blind trust in people to truly learn who you should and shouldn't put your faith in. We've all fallen in with a bad crowd or individual. It was fun for a while until your back accidentally ran into their knife. And now you know better and are much more careful with who you put your trust in.

5. That one drink too many

The only way to learn your limit is to break it. Probably a couple of times. We all know that feeling where you've had one drink too many and wish you could take back that last shot. If the hangover isn't enough to deter you, the next time you get a sniff of that drink again you will surely remember just exactly where things went wrong.

6. That one grade

Your grades do not define you. I got my first ever C in Ms. Fox's senior AP English class. I thought it was the end of the world. But the world just kept on turning. I still graduated. I still made it into college. I have no current plans to become a stripper. Education is important but grades are not everything and it is okay to fail.

7.That one fear

Everyone's is different. Whatever it is, don't let it hold you back anymore. Don't stay in your comfort zone anymore. Get out and do something that scares you. I've always been afraid of change but I made the decision to move to a new city where I didn't know anyone and it has changed my life for the better.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
