7 Easy, Affordable Halloween Costumes

This weekend is my first Halloween at Chapel Hill and I am ready to see what all the Franklin Street hype is about. Even though it's right around the corner, I know there are a number of people who remain costume-less. But don't worry -- I've compiled the perfect list of easy, affordable costumes for any of you penniless broke freshmen. (Clown costumes not included.)

1. Where's Waldo

Dress as our favorite and seemingly difficult-to-spot guy with a few thrift shop and even Dollar Tree runs. Bonus points if you take a funny picture in the middle of an unsuspecting crowd. Supplies: red and white striped shirt, red and white ski cap, jeans, glasses.

2. Sushi

This costume is super simple and even comes with a pillow if you find yourself sleeping over at a friend's house. I hope your Halloween party has snacks because this outfit is going to make you hungry. Supplies: white dress (this is the rice part of the sushi roll), pillow with orange or pink pillowcase (stripes are optional for this fish part), green or black belt (for the seaweed), condiment headband and/or accessories.

3. Nail polish bottles

Pick a random collection of shades, or do a theme! Fall colors across the warm spectrum, or the blue, aqua, and teal of ocean waves are a perfect place to start. Supplies: black tank top or shirt (depending on the weather), black hat, colored skirt, black shoes.

4. Gumball machine

Sassy and cute, this costume has a different feeling depending on whichever skirt shape you choose. Pick a swingy skirt for a flirty feel, a pencil skirt for a sophisticated edge, or a full skirt for a romantic look! Supplies: tank top, skirt, craft pom poms, gray felt for the dispenser.

5. Ty stuffed animal

This is probably one of my favorite looks: easy, comfy, and adorable! There are a variety of different animals you can pick from (including a Winnie the Pooh onesie I saw at Walmart recently). Supplies: animal onesie, red and white paper (for the Ty label), some string.

6. Girl emoji

You can change this super simple costume up with every picture you take -- depending on your mood, you can be flirtly, fierce or funny! Supplies: pink shirt. You literally need nothing else.

7. Awkward family photos

Get together with some of your friends or family to choose an iconic and awkward photo to model, or come up with your own! Supplies: matching sweaters, '80s tacky clothes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
